Reinstalling my laptop for the 7th time...

Specs update, Dell Dimension 2350, according to CCleaner:
MS Windows XP Home SP3
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80GHz processor, 2.0GB RAM [upgraded from 512 MB], Intel 82845G//GL/PE/GV Graphics Controller

The original HDD: WDC WD400BB-75DEA00
Added HDD: Maxtor 5A320J0

Processor driver:
Version: 5.1.2600.0
Date: 4/1/2004
Device Instance ID: ACPI/GENUINEINTEL_-_X86_FAMILY_15_MODEL_2\_0

I hope this information helps. I still don't know if it is 64-bit capable or not.

It does not support 64 bit OS and applications.

Thanks, ares93! My expertise is limited to cleaning up friends' HDDs and troubleshooting for malware, virus problems and the like. I would love to build a desktop computer one day... but I am afraid of making a mess of the job. Upgrades are no problem, but a whole computer?

A whole computer can be easier than trying to fix an old one.

You just have to be aware what you want and that everything you're buying is inter-compatible.

I went with 8GB of RAM when I built mine, but bought XP 32bit, not knowing about the RAM limitation of 32bit. I fixed that with XPx64 and now Win7x64 (after an HDD upgrade).

It might seem intimidating, but it's not as difficult as it looks.
