Barclay was one of my favorite TNG and VOY characters. I loved him because he was flawed, and nervous, and felt like he didn't fit in, and it's so easy to identify with him - especially if you are/have been very shy or nervous. I thought he was a unique and endearing character, and I was pleased to see him in VOY. Most Trek characters seem so polished in their social relations, so it was nice to have a character who was self-conscious and struggled with simple social relations in the way that many normal people do.

[Too Much Fun]

I really loved the first two Barclay episodes. It was very realistic and fascinating to see a character with so many hang-ups on a series with so many confident characters. The transporter phobia episode was okay the first few times I saw it, but I have no desire to ever see it again. I thought his cameo in "Star Trek: First Contact" was adorable and his transformation into a spider in "Genesis" was also funny and somehow appropriate, even if it made no sense scientifically. I think Barclay was sort of a prototype for the fun peripheral characters outside of the main cast on Star Trek, an idea that DS9 later really ran with through characters like Nog, Garak, Weyoun, etc.

Just watched "Nth Degree" again. Lovely story line with good old Reg turning into a computer. Brilliant line when Crusher says "you may be the most intelligent human who ever lived" (or something like that). Reg just looks a bit thoughtful and nods slightly.

I love the alien at the end of the episode.

true on the perfect crew, Barclay was not perfect, and a fresh injection of a character to a well known crew, and played well did help. Much like doing eps off the ship, a great change of scenery really helps the series or breaks things up. Based on that, I would give Barclay three Tpol raised eyebrows, out of a possible five. ^^^

I loved Barclay, and they even managed to tell a story that was ahead of its time in "Hollow Pursuits" in how a guy was letting an artificial interactive story negatively affect his real flesh and blood life and duties without making said person a negative figure. Instead they just made him a human being, flaws and all, who was just trying his best at life.

I suspect many of us would like to be able go to a holosuite to vent our frustrations.

I always liked Barclay. As a somewhat-stereotypically nerdy Trekker kid, he was an immensely relatable figure... I was therefore surprised to read that he appeared on Voyager six times, once more than TNG (if you count FC separately, that is).

A shame that Barclay didn't show up at the Rikers' wedding, canoodling with Seven! The guy needs a break, and why not have them pair up?
