Back when Camelot first aired I enjoyed it a lot. I'd got into Spartacus, and whereas I never used to like more fantasy stuff I was definitely getting into it.
After finishing Penny Dreadful, I decided to rewatch it.
I was going to start this thread with questioning whether Camelot would do better these days after the success of Game of Thrones. It surprised me to see that Camelot aired a mere two months before Game of Thrones.
I do think there is some merit to that... fantasy is in, particularly of that variety. It shares quite a few commonalities too... from the nun being the red queen, plenty of character deaths and plenty of battles.
Rewatching it I don't think it's a *great* show, but I still really like it. It's a good cast and had plenty of potential. The reason I rewatched it was I love Eva Green. Whereas I loved Morgan the first time, she didn't hold quite so much charm this time - and that's possibly due to Penny Dreadful. I know she has less to work with in Camelot, but the nuance of her in Penny Dreadful is really missing in Camelot. I even feel Eva's accting has improved a lot - but again, that could be the material rather than her.
I wonder if it was just at the wrong time... it came out as GoT aired - so it both competed with it, but also couldn't enjoy the surge in interest in such shows.
But then looking at reviews online, it just didn't seem that popular... in particular the Arthur actor seems to annoy everyone. But again... childhood/young kings, who knew that could have become such a popular thing.
