Reconciling STO with Trek Lit

When talking about the real world (which was the intention behind Picard's speech) - a history is 'less proper' than others because there is ONLY ONE objective, true history.

Well, I guess it depends what you mean by history- the objective reality being described, which you're talking about here, or the description itself, the act of interpreting the past and constructing an account of it- because that isn't objective at all.

Even the interpretation of past objective events, subjective as it is, is bound to these events, has only a little space to maneuver beyond whitch it becomes pure propaganda, 'forgetting', 'inventing' or 'distorting' events, blowing some out of proportion and minimizing others, etc.

Oh, definitely. Yeah, I'm with you on that. :)

I like this idea... and if STO fails, future authors and writers will incorporate this into their works!

It doesn't have to "fail". Diane Duane populated the galaxy with lots of original alien species for the text-based ST computer game, "The Kobayashi Alternative". A few years later she reused those alien species, but put them all on the one planet, called Flyspeck, in her ST novel, "Doctor's Orders". The who recognized the re-use smiled, those who didn't enjoyed new alien species. And the world didn't end. Authors will continue to cherrypick the stuff that is worthy/fun.

*waits impatiently for a security guard named Alex Munroe to appear in a TNG novel on the E-E, who's previously served on Voyager*

^Oh, I would love the see Elite Force games tied into the Litverse.

Why don't they come up with an idea where someone from the TrekLit verse goes into the STO verse? I'd read it. :)

And yes please to working the Elite Force games into the TrekLit verse.

Great nostalgia value, though- it reminds me of the similar panicking in fandom when the BBC took the Dr Who book line back from Virgin, and Lawrence Miles set out to separate the two realities. Using pretty much the same gag, too.

Ah, good times. Good times... :adore:
