Please recommend some of the most bombastic, OTT, and grandiose music you can think of! :D

I've had Kamen's Robin Hood theme buzzing round in my head all day long. Man, it even made going grocery shopping awesome.

I'm sure you know the piece I mean, but if you haven't, here it is, to give you an idea of what kind of music I'm hankering for right now... any era/genre is acceptable to me though obviously orchestral works are perhaps a bit more likely to fit the criteria.

You asked for it! This sprang immediately to mind:

Some great suggestions, thanks! I've been randomly browsing youtube for more music too. Some good stuff, but a lot of what's tagged as epic there is just high tempo intense all the way, rather than swooping up and down the intensity scale, if you know what I mean.

The grand swoopy stuff is more interesting to me than the super intense constant stuff.

Yeah it's a very cool track. Here's something a bit creepy though: Breivik apparently had that playing on repeat during his shooting spree.

Enjoyed this a lot; hadn't heard it before, at least not presented fully like this. Thanks!

Yeah, I came across them while browsing youtube, but found some of their stuff a bit lacking in variation. Not the worst offenders for that though; that would be Immediate Music/Globus. Some cool stuff, but too much of it sounds very similar.

Good call on Holst's Planet suite though; definitely my cup of tea. One of the few classical CDs I own.

Sticking with the classics:

^ was one of my mother's favourites, and it rubbed off on me. We actually used it at her funeral, too.

Anything by John Williams.

(well, except for the Ewok March)

Hey, even that would be EPIC if you were an Ewok!

But since you mentioned Star Wars:

and of course:

Nice choice. And from one sub movie to another:

Yeah, that qualifies! I suppose we should also include the Flash Gordon theme.... ;)

But since you mentioned Star Wars:

Not just Star Wars, but Indy Jones, Superman, Jurrasic Park, Space Camp, etc.

Like I said, anything by John Williams.

Another favorite composer of mine is James Horner, but I don't know if his stuff is considered bombastic. But I would argue that it's "epic".

Another good piece by Kamen (RIP)

Scrawny71, Queen always works for epic rock :techman:

To me, most of the symphonic metal genre is pretty epic, original Nightwish most of all.

Well crafted songs, usually with an opera quality female voice.

Did somebody say epic?

One of my all-time favorite soundtracks. :techman:
