Reccommend Green Lantern?

DontFeedPhil

Fleet Captain
Hey,
I am trying to find a good Green Lantern "Novel" style comic. Something similar to Superman: Birthright or Batman The Long Halloween. I think thats what they are called. But it seems to me that they take an entire run of comics and put them all together into one nice novel style book.
So Im looking for a good origin book. Hopefully something recent. I just want something with modern style drawing and not something from 1970 or something.
Can anyone reccommend a good Novel for Green Lantern?

"GREEN LANTERN: SECRET ORIGIN" comes to mind, if you haven't read it yet. There are hardcover and softcover editions now.

So is that considered to be a pretty standard origin story? I know I could search myself but I wanted to know people opinions on whats considered "the standard"...

It is actually a reprint of a story arc from the monthly title. It's a modern retelling, sort of like Superman: Birthright. So it's a familiar story for a modern audience, but with minor changes. More information here:

You mean a graphic novel? I recommend Green Lantern Secret Origin and Rebirth.

There's an older graphic novel that might be hard to find. "Emerald Dawn" It came out in 1990. The problem with Secret Origin story is that it doesn't talk about why Sinestro was exiled. That is covered in the graphic novel "Emerald Dawn II."

If your interested in Kyle Rayners origin there's the Graphic Novel "A New Dawn" but that might be harder to find.

I recommend just about everything Geoff Johns has done with GL:
Secret Origins
Rebirth
Wanted: Hal Jordan
Sinestro Corps War

And to go old school:
Emerald Twilight
Tales of the Green Lantern Corps TPB (Which has a nice bearing on the current Blackest Night storyline)

I think you would call them a graphic novel. But I would describe it more like they took a run of individual comics and slapped them into one nice "novel" style book.
And Im looking for some standard Green Lantern to start...
Thanks for the reccommendations. Keep them comming...

They used to call that a "trade paperback", and "graphic novel" meant something different. Now people call everything a "graphic novel."

They are also called trades for short. I think Emerald Twilight/New Dawn is still in print or at the very least easier to find I also recommend that one as it features Kyle Rayner's origin story.
and how Hal Jordan went crazy and destroyed all the Green Lanterns and their central battery.
The Emerald Knights storyline ties into a lot of that and was printed in tpb a number of years ago. It's too bad the Power of Ion tpb is oop there is some important stuff in there like.
How the Green Lantern corps are restored after being destroyed by Hal Jordan/Parallax.

Green Lantern Rebirth is the series that started the current storyline and is a great introduction to everything. After that you could skip forward a little and read the GL magnum opus, The Sinestro Corps War (two volumes plus a tie-in volume).
