Now that TOS has had its recast, which other series characters would you like to see recast as well, for movies, TV or both?

MY first choice is DS9 - due to the quality of the characters - and after that ENT - because I like the premise, but some of the characters might need to be rewritten before recasting.

TNG and VOY - no. The characters themselves aren't interesting enough to bother with.

I meant to make this a multi-choice poll, but oh frak, this will force yall to be selective. :D

I think all options bad for me. I am rather interesting recasting the Cage crew for new TV series after XI movie is released. We could use new Enterprise design and cast new Pike & Number one.

That, or Captain April. But that said, I choose 'Enterprise.'

So we are doomed to have endless rehashing of series with recasting all the time. Have some guy be the 8th Kirk.

What the hell ever happened to an "imagination"? If we had this poor attitude we NEVER would of got TNG or DS9.

So NO MORE recasting. Something NEW or nothing at all!

My thoughts exactly!

I think it's bad enough what they are doing to TOS right now. They should have gone forward with Trek and come up with something new instead of pissing all over TOS.

I don't know, but I have the feeling that Hollywood is very close to creative bankruptcy. It seems that every movie and every series that was even remotely successful is getting remade or re-imagined. That's just lame!

Realistically, none of the other series have quite the iconic clout of the original to be likely to receive the remake treatment. Despite the popularity of TNG and the relative success of the first few movies with Picard and Co., the underwhelming success of INS and the outright flop of NEM showed that they just don't have the pull or clout of Kirk and crew, the name recognition to people who've never seen an episode of Star Trek. My own favourite Trek series is DS9, but I'm quite sure that the names Sisko,Odo or Bashir mean nothing to the casual cinemagoer.

If the JJ Abrams crew are successful enough for Paramount to want to do spin-offs or sequels, then I'd imagine it's much more likely that they'll simply create original spin-off series, probably 23rd century set, than to hire Tom Hardy as young Picard, Mekhi Phifer as young Sisko, etc.

I don't want them to touch ANYTHING ELSE. Especially DS9. It's perfect as is. Leave it be for cryin' out loud.

I am sorry but I don't buy this "name recognition". There hasn't been a TOS movie since the early 1990's. Patrick Stewart is "kind of famous". Just because the average person doesn't know Sisko doesn't mean their is validation in doing Kirk version 8.0. Try something different. You got 7 seasons of TNG and DS9. Move it forward and try to develop different characters.

Despite hearing a lot of complaining about the SW prequels. They did quite well and they introduced a whole new list of different characters. The prequels proved you didn't have to rehash "Han Solo" or "Luke or Leia" in order to be successful.

^Patrick Stewart is indeed 'kind of famous' but Kirk and Spock are icons. And Sisko, Janeway or Archer are not. I'm not talking about merits of the shows (as I say, DS9 is my fave Trek show and I like parts of VOY and ENT). But showbusiness is a business and the bottom line is what's going to be successful.

I personally agree with you and would rather see new Trek shows than revisitations. But I predicted after ENT was cancelled that the next Trek movie or show would be a remake of TOS, though I didn't expect it to happen quite so quickly. The simple fact of the matter is that recent Trek shows haven't caught the public imagination the way that the original or TNG did.

Like you, I'm also a fan of the SW prequels. But we're not comparing like with like. SW was always bigger and more popular than Trek. Trek was never the phenomenon that Wars was. Besides, everyone knew that the next SW movies would be prequels, that we would see what happened first, before we saw what happened next (if we ever saw what happened next). And while they may not have rehashed Luke, Leia etc, we did see the young Obi-Wan, the young Vader, R2-D2, C3PO, Yoda and Chewbacca, the Emperor, etc. Not entirely moving forward.

As I say, I agree with you from an artistic point of view. But putting on my realist's hat, I don't think it's gonna happen the way you want.

I wouldn't want any of the regulars recast. Dax could appear with a new host, of course. A few minor characters have been recast in the past, and we can live with that (Captain Braxton, the Borg Queen).

My feelings as well. I want to see new crews, new ships.

My choice, recast Voyager and start over. Find someone that can play a Vulcan. Forget the first 7 seasons were ever filmed.

I think Picard and Data get some mainstream recognition, arguably. Even if it is just 'that bald captain and that albino guy'.
