Thoughts on the rear consoles added to the Danube-class runabouts in the later season of DS9: yay or nay?

For me, I wasn't a fan of this addition. I thought it made the main cabin too crowded and preferred the simpler design from earlier seasons. What do you think?

I agree, it's a negative. What's more of a let down, though, is that they never used that set for the rear of the runabout that TNG built specifically for DS9 to use. They could have used it all the time, and rearranged it however they wanted. I can think of numerous episodes where it would have worked really well. When it was used in Timescape, the Runabout actually felt like something larger than a shuttle. The scale seemed accurate, all the windows were made, etc.

I liked that the Delta Flyer had a back room, and just like in Timescape, you could have someone in the back doing something, while talking to the pilot in front.

I definitely agree with this. The only other time I recall them using aft section of the runabout was in The Visitor, where Jake gazes out the aft windows when he's finally forced to leave DS9 as it was being turned over to the Klingons. And that ended up being an alternate timeline.

I think it would be anti-climactic for Sisko to order the crew into the back compartment for a confab every time something happened. It was fine on TNG, not on DS9 please.

Nay.
The perfect configuration of the Runabout set was in NG "Timescape" complete with the one time seen aft section set.

I have no problem with it other than maybe it should be scaled for a seating position.

It could be a sort of ops position to free the pilot from things like transporting, cargo control, etc.

I don't think that scenario is being suggested. It would just be nice to see them hanging out back there once in a while. The runabouts are pretty cool, but without seeing the rest of it, it basically acts as just another shuttle. They go on trips that last weeks in these things.

Also, they can configure it however they want. It doesn't have to be a conference table back there. They reconfigured the cockpit all the time
