Reaper - !Recent episodes Spoilers!

Timelord79 (he/him)

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Haven't seen a Reaper thread in awhile, thought I'd start one because I would love to read what everybody else thinks about the recent story developments there.

It's been really great.
The whole Sam vs. the devil situation got an underlying tension that's worthy of a build up to a season finale. And it's only been 7 episodes in...

Well, there are indications that the show is on the bubble. So I wouldn't be surprised if the writers were to tie loose ends. Anyway, I also have the feeling something's up with Sam's side-kicks (Sock and Benji). If the Devil sends people to Hell for puny reasons (such as last week's virgin) then these two are definitely ending up right there.
Btw, don't you think Sock's character is loosely based on Jason Mewes? Sans pot...

Reaper is so damn cute, clever and funny. I'm afraid it won't get another season which annoys me - there's still a lot of plotline to be told.

I find myself just zapping every scene that doesn't involve Sam or Satan (not that Satan is in many scenes without Sam).

I love the guy they cast as Morgan, Sam's obnoxious half-brother - Armie Hammer is the actor. I have never seen a person who looks so much like the son of Satan should. :rommie: Fantastic casting. Morgan is so completely Sam's opposite that they play off each other brilliantly.

OMG, according to IMDB he's 6'5". No wonder Sam looks like a shrimp.

OMG according to IMDB:

He is the great-grandson of industrialist, art collector, and philanthropist Armand Hammer.

I wonder if there's a secret reason for the Hammer family fortune? :rommie:

I agree, and I'm pretty certain the recent love interests of them both might be a set-up for them to lose their souls...

Sock sleeping with his (step-)sister and Benji dating a demon from hell? There have to be consequences to that.

now wouldn't that be intersting... sam finds out his soul is saved at the same time learning his friends are not going to be spending eternity in the same place he is...

I'm finding the comedy subplots more enjoyable than the actual demon plots but that's OK. Sock is hilarious, particularly when he's trying to nail his SISTER, and Benji's "relationship" with the fem-demon is pretty funny as well.

That's going to be why Sam is still a reaper during the third season, with emphasis on finding a way to save his friends' souls in the process.

One thing I never got about the show is why Sam seems so confident and comfortable to talk about his plots without being in a magic circle or anything. Doesn't he realize Satan can hear and see everything he does?

I think the arc of this season is Sam's slow corruption to evil. He's become comfortable with his demon hunting and with the Devil being his daddy and is starting to get just a little conceited about it. And whatshisname the other Devil's Son is showing him what he's turning into.

He reminds me more of Jack Black than Jason Mewes. Speaking of Mewes, Tyler Labine had a funny cameo in Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

I only started watching Reaper a few weeks ago but I have found it to be pretty entertaining. Sam's all too perfect "brother" makes a good foil.

Those guys all have weird girl issues.

Seriously, what kind of man chooses his crazy grandmother over his adorable, amiable girlfriend.

And Andi keeps telling Sam he's got to be more honest with her and the moment it comes out he's the Devil's son she drops him like a hot potato. Sam probably should have tried to get at least one "I told you so" in before attempting to get her back.

^^ She left him because he was lying to her about it, though ;) If he had told her it probably would have been better.

Nah, Morgan planted the idea in Andi's head that deep down Sam's just a wolf in sheep's clothing and she's missing it because she loves him. And that was basically the line she gave when she dumped him (you're being corrupted by the Devil/there's evil inside you/I can't handle your side job).

I dunno, I thought Andi's reason came down to being weirded out that 1) Sam works for Satan and 2) he's the son of Satan. And even tho you'd think #2 would be the bigger issue, fair or not, it seems like #1 is the bigger deal because the implication is that if Sam can get out of his contract with Satan and return to having a normal life, Andi will get back together with him. Andi just can't handle all the demons and weird tentacle creatures in the relationship.

I keep hearing that the show is probably canceled.
That's a real shame. One direction I would have liked to see would have been Sam getting out of his contract with the devil, maybe as early as the end of this season, but at the same time losing the souls of Sock and Benji.
So he decides to do a 180° and actually start rescuing souls FROM hell, souls that are not actually evil but got sent there for minor moral slip-ups like his friends.
At the end of that arc he might have to sacrifice his own soul again.. and this time forever to finally rescue his friends.
Oh, the drama that could have been...

I don't know why everyone is always in such a rush to have a show proclaimed as cancelled. I guess it's that same deal where the first thing they ask a guy after the Super Bowl is if he's going to retire, they know he won't answer, but they just can't risk not asking and being the first with the scoop.
