OK Fun thread

Real life places you've been to or seen pictures of that remind you of places in video games.

I'll start with Phillipsburg Sint Maarten. Picture of this at night with all the lights on made me think of all those towns I flew over in Just Cause 3

Not sure if this counts, exactly, since it isn't a place that *reminded* me of a game so much as it *was the place from the game*, but back in October of 2010, my family and I went to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" in Washington, DC, and we also visited a bunch of the museums and monuments on The National Mall. I very successfully navigated us to most of the places we were going without need of a map, because I recognized most stuff from an extensive play-through of Fallout 3. :)

That's actually pretty awesome

About 15 years ago, my wife and I vacationed in her home state of Missouri and while there visited the Bonne Terre Mine. It's a historic lead mine that is huge, partially filled with water, and easily calls up recollections of playing Lara Croft, Doom, LOTRO or any other game that that featured an underground setting.

I had a similar experience, but with New Vegas. I had just taken a trip out west that ended up visiting most of what constituted the New Vegas map, including doing the full tour of the Hoover Dam and visiting Zion National Park. I started the game maybe 2 months after my trip and so everything was still very fresh in my mind, and was very impressed to see just how faithful a recreation everything was. It even included the campground we stayed at near the Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam had small differences but other than that was a faithful reproduction. Having been to these places and then playing New Vegas made the game that much more immersive. And apparently the town of Goodsprings that you start out in is also a real town. Even though I didn't like the story very much, I have to give credit to the devs for all that attention to detail.

Being in wooded areas interspersed with open meadows reminds of me of Legend of Zelda.
