Real Genius Movie Reboot Set As NBC Comedy Series

Eh?

This wasn't a movie that was fun because of the premise, but because of the cast. How do they not get that?
Because producers and studio executives don't have imagination or any understanding of why audiences like the things they like. They're only going after Real Genius because they've likely done surveys and figured out that people recognize it.

Expect a lot of space movies with wacky CG characters purely because Guardians of the Galaxy did well.

Um. Whut? I must be forgetting part of the film, 'cause I don't remember any assassination attempt in the movie. I remember a CLASSIFIED US government laser system test that our "heroes" sabotaged by sneaking onto a military base, sneaking into a military aircraft, and sabotaging the computer, out of self-righteous anti-military liberal rage.

You try sabotaging a classified military weapon test and see what the charges are.

Plus of course the charges, probably from the FBI, for causing said weapon to fire on a civilian neighborhood.

Yes, I'm afraid, whatever your motivations, it's treason to sabotage a military program. It's what enemy spies do.
It's made clear in the movie that the laser's only purpose is assassinations and is being funded entirely by the CIA in secret. In the opening scene a character objects to it because it is illegal and immoral before being killed himself.

I just don't see the point of this show, other than to try to sponge off the popularity of The Big Bang Theory.

Agree. That is the reason. Back in the '80s when Magnum P.I. was a hit a series called Matt Houston was created. When Three's Company was a hit We Got It Made.

etc.

So true. Raiders of the Lost Ark inspired Tales of the Gold Monkey, War Games inspired Whiz Kids, and the list goes on and on.

As for Real Genius, I'd rather see a movie sequel with Val Kilmer and the other leads reprising their roles, thirty years later and now they are professors at PacTech, dealing with a new crop of genius students.

Ah. Thanks, it's been a looong time since I've seen the film.
Nevertheless, my comments on treason stand.

Defending your country from the illegal and treasonous acts of others is a course of action that is often considered justifiable.

It's nice that your idealism counters reality in your world.

I work for a government contractor. I've been told flat-out how it works, by people who have the power to put me in federal prison.

Yes that might be interesting.....
