Re-doing my Klingon D7

I was never happy with my basic D7 model, and since I will have occasion to use it again soon, I figured now would be a good time to up the modeling quality. It's not textured yet, but I intend to add a little bit more detail in that department as well. Nothing too elaborate, but they will add little touches of realism. Anyway:

I'm interested: will you be referring at all to the TOS-R model of the D-7 from the remastered "Elaan of Troyus"?

I wasn't planning on it. I'm primarily using the McMasters' blueprints.

I don't like how they squared off parts of the TOS-R model. The aft hull of the D7 is a really interesting shape, with a combination of curves and hard edges. They seem to have simplified that shape on the TOS-R model and reduced it to a more angular form. That's my main gripe with it.

Also, I don't care for those blue glowing spots on the back.

Adam, you have caught the 'swan meets attack dog' essence... be neat to see your D7 in color with your excellent sense of composition and shading. Back in the 70's when I was watching Trek every weeknight at 6:00 I liked the exotic shape of the D7 better than the Enterprise.

Matt Jefferies got it right back in TOS's third season; the Klingon ship is a masterpiece that looks alien and holds up well today. I think it will always look cool no matter what wierd art trends our culture goes through.

So, is she gonna be painted up as a Klingon ship, a Romulan-bought ship...

...or in the colours the Anarchist got re-decoed into?

Yeah, I love the D7. In my opinion, because of Jefferies' amazing design sense, It has the same timeless quality that the original Enterprise has. It has an alien-looking design aesthetic to it, but at the same time it looks like a real, functioning machine. It conveys a sense of aggressiveness. And it doesn't really have any qualities that make it look retro or dated. Overall, one of my all-time favorites.

Thanks everyone!

I'm actually redoing the model so it can be the other half of the OK6. Initially I will be texturing it as a Klingon ship, but I'm sure I'll probably have to turn it into a KR at some point.

Noted.

It would be cool to see it in the colours of the Anarchist, though!

Well, once I finish the model, that would be a fairly easy retexture. Just painting the hull that characteristic Hydran blue and adding the colored stripe denoting which fleet it's part of. Maybe ADB will need it someday. Who knows?

Well, there will be that Hydran Attack supplement - if the Anarchist goes in it, there you go!

(Hey, at least I didn't ask for one re-painted to match the Auroran Navy, to represent one of the ships brought to Omega along with Kraknora...)

Quick question, but does the TOS model have rectangular windows like that? And if so, are they so big? I was looking at screencaps from The Enterprise Incident and the windows look smaller.

And, yes, stay away from that atrocious TOS-R model. It's an inelegant, inaccurate pile.

Well, I didn't measure the windows exactly, I just sort of eyeballed it. They're close in size though, and they might look a little bigger since they're illuminated. Also, the D7 model had a mixture of square and round windows.
