Ray Barrett has Died

Australis

Writer - Australis
Admiral
Well known Australian actor Ray Barrett passed away this evening (Tuesday) of a brain haemorrhage. He was 82.

He started off in the UK in a series called 'The Troubleshooters', which I remember as being one of my Dad's favourite shows.

Us SF types better know him as the voice of Commander Shore in 'Stingray', and John Tracy and The \Hood in 'Thunderbirds'. snf a 1965 Dr Who serial, 'The Rescue'. His last role seems to havbe bene in the movie 'Australia'.

My favourite film of his is 'Goodbye Paradise', a brilliant film that sets Chandler-style noir on the Aussie beach, throwing in a political military coup by shady types trying to make money from oil reserves off Surfers Paradise, one of Australia's great beach strips. Sharp, witty, a bit outside the box, funny, and controversial, as the writers sailed very close to libel. It's very, very hard to find (and if you know where I can get a copy, PM me!), so if you get a chance, watch it.

I'll miss Ray and his craggy, craggy face. :(

Never heard of this guy but it's sad seeing a lot of good actors go now. :( May he RIP.
