There is already an excellent preexisting thread titled “Having Trouble With McCoy: Provenance of Shadows”, but since it’s an older thread the original poster did not include a poll at the top like the newer review threads do. So, I thought I’d post a separate poll thread. The “Having Trouble With...” thread can be found at https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/having-trouble-with-mccoy-provenance-of-shadows.274499/ .

I just added my (relatively recent) review there and would encourage others to add their thoughts there, as well, instead of here (aside from participating in the poll here), although I know that some will probably post here anyway, which is fine.

Although I'm not entirely sure, I *think* the thread title has to contain the phrase "Review Thread" in order to be picked up by the review thread aggregator.

Thanks. I’m so new here that I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as a “review thread aggregator”.

I guess I should have just created a new thread like I did for the other two books in the trilogy and just posted a link to the prior thread there.

I’ve seen others talk about editing a thread title but I don’t see how to do that. The “edit” buttons I see are for editing the poll or my first post under the thread, but not for the thread title itself.

It was set up a number of years ago by member Sho (who has not actually been around for a while now). It collects all the results from the polls of the novel review threads, and aggregates them into a single page where you can compare the ratings for the various novels.

(Cool to see Articles of the Federation at the top of the list!)

I *think* that editing a thread title is a premium member function. If you had it, it would be under the "Thread Tools" dropdown at the top of the thread, just beside the "Watch Thread" link. But if you don't have it, then if you wanted to edit your thread title, you would need to ask our estimable moderator, @trampledamage .

Okay. What is a "premium member" again?

You can pay $25 a year to not see advertisements, and upload images directly to the board, and probably some other perks I don't use (but I don't think editing thread titles is one of them, that seems like the sort of thing you'd want to keep restricted to moderators to prevent mischief).

ETA: Well, I'll be damned. Luckily, I just started a thread recently, so I could check, and I can, in fact, change titles after the fact. I'd still let the mod do it rather than pay to do it one time, if that's the only reason you'd want to go premium.

It says at the review aggregator site: “The listing is updated twice daily to reflect new threads and new votes. It was last updated on 05/31/20 11:16:33 UTC.“

That would seem to indicate to me that there might be something wrong with the aggregator since it has not updated since May 31.

(I’m going to post this in the official discussion thread for the aggregator, too.)

Some books totally depend on situation as to enjoyment. I have struggled with some of DRG3's long novels, but they usually pay off, and I was totally absorbed into the story of the McCoy book. DRG3 books are excellent vacation books.

I was staying interstate with an avid Trek fan who reads her Trek books quite selectively. And every meal time, discussion would become "What just happened..." in the McCoy book as I read. I had loved its many references to Filmation's TAS and DRG3 told me a few weeks later that he had put them thinking of me.

Found my old review:

Can do :D

Re the aggregate table - I know one of the fairly recent updates of the software broke how the aggregator worked and at the time @Sho was swamped with work so it would be some time before they could fix everything. I can't imagine things have got better since then!
