Rare Star Trek Photos - August 2008

Everybody take a gander at the August 2008 edition of Rare Photos.

Some of my favorites are...

• Voyager crew casual portrait screw up. It's signed, but it's still funny.
• Behind the Scenes on Voyager.
• Silly Chakotay - this is actually Beltran doing a funny face, it is not photo manipulated to make him do that. It's one of dozens of alternate/rejected publicity photos from a publicity photo test sheet that got sent to the producers for approval.
• Persis Gown... wow, she was a super-hotty!
• Picard INS Variant - there are three known rare INS publicity shots. Two are variants of Picard and Worf, where instead of being in front of the Warp Core, they're in front of some consoles. This is Picards. The third rare photo which I doubt we'll ever see is Data with the gash in his neck in front of the Warp Core.
• Gene 1976 - Just a fans snap-shot well preserved of Gene circa 1976.
• Rare TOS - there are only 3 variants of the TOS official publicity phot. The one we all often see from more to the right of this one, the one with Nichelle's head cut off that's nearly identical to that one, and this one - the best one, IMHO. It's not really too hard to find a copy of the photo, but it's always been in B&W - until now. I found this color copy for sale and bought it. It's vintage, 1970s, and I had to us a lot of photoshop skills to repair the age fade.

In the previous format I did these, I had descriptions with each one, but we can't afford the tax it puts on our MySQL database resources; TrekCore uses up so much bandwidth and space and server resources, it's insane!

Is there a story behind the Voyager Cast one where there in casuals? It kinda looks like a joke was told or someone did something that resulted in Dawson practically keeling over in hysterics with Mulgrew following her.

I'm sure there is a story behind that, but I'm afraid I don't know it. I always try to find out when I can, though. Dawson seems directed to Picardo, so I imagine he told whatever joke was told. Having met Bob numerous times, I can easily imagine that as the state of events.

I've seen the "normal" version of this photo - the Voyager cast did it in season 3 very much like TNG's cast did one towards the end of their run. I had never seen this "goof" one though. Ideally, I wouldn't put signed photos up with the rare stuff, but beggars can't be choosers. Once and a while the only way to show a rare photo is with a signature scrawled across it.

I've seen quite a few of these before but some of them I haven't. That shot of Persis Khambata is lovely, with the bald head, and that picture of Mccoy has been one of my favourites for years. Thanks so much for putting these on line.

Thanks once again for the rare photos. Notice the one of De Kelly in TWOK; there' s paperwork, made of real paper it looks like, littering his desk and clipboards with paper behind him. The Persis pic is awesome. She was a beautiful woman.

I have a lot more of those. Just releasing them in drips and drabs. There are about 3 or 4 of each crew member of those. They're syndication publicity photos. They where done during the beginning of season 4, when Janeway still had the bun and 7 of 9 wore the silver cat suit.

Those photos of Janeway, Chakotay, and Tuvok all together remind me how Piller and Taylor were selling them as "The Big Three" of VOY -- they had in mind that the show would make them as central as Kirk, Spock, and Bones. Interesting how two of them turned out to be just cardboard cut-outs by the end of the show.

Actually, that alien was from STIV:TVH. It appeared in the FASA Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update RPG supplement for that movie as a "Bzzit Khaht". That name is non-canon, however.

I've seen that VOY photo before, possibly at JuPiter Station, years ago. I remember reading that Tim Russ was one of the prime practical jokers among several in the cast, so I wouldn't doubt it was him that broke everyone else up (notice he's looking at the camera with that "Heh heh - got 'em" sort of grin.)

Some nice ones in here, but that publicity shot from TWoK is really striking. Keep it up, Frontier! I like seeing these.
