Rare Photos: November 2011

Where do I begin?

Snowtober.

The last time we had snow before November in my area (near Philadelphia) was 1979. Said storm was a light dusting, according to others I know who where alive to witness such. So the very concept of snow in October to me is... alien. Let alone snow of any measure. Because it's just not happened. Not in over 30 years. More than my lifetime.

All Saturday (the 29th) the power flickered and went off and on. It was annoying, but at least it kept coming back on. Until it didn't. At around 5:30 PM. With the temperatures hovering at or near freezing and a solid few inches of heavy wet snow on the ground. I call our power company to report the outage... takes me a good 10 attempts to break through the jammed circuits... and am told by the automated machine response it won't be back for about 24 hours. I got about 3 hours of sleep that night, as it was just too damn cold.

Next day, still no luck. The estimate to restoration? November 1, 6 PM. Two more whole days. Needless to say we left. Which was not easy. We spent the next two days at my sister's boyfriends place, as he spent them at her place. And by that Monday Halloween morning? The estimate was up to November 3, 11 PM. Now thankfully, by 4 PM Tuesday night power was back. Took us until 8 to get home. Still a mighty mess of people without such.

Needless to say it was hell. A lot of folks are still in that frozen hell. And it's put a giant flashing spot-light on the fact that our infrastructure is fundamentally FUBAR. But this isn't a soap-box... I just want everyone to know, if ever I had a valid reason for taking my time in getting this special up, it was this month. LOL.

Oh, and did I mention this is the 50th edition of Rare Photos? I don't count the 'stocking stuffers' as full editions, and this be Article 50. I've given brief consideration to stopping at Article 75, which is December of 2013. Round number, end of a year. We'll see. If I can keep finding material though, I'll keep them going. I do have 76-80 listed as "Works in Progress"... ;)

To the goodies...

My Favorites:
1st Row, Left: You don't see this photo of Archer much. Best I can tell it goes with a set of photos showing most of the rest of the cast at the consoles. I'd gauge season 2, but it could be 1.

3rd Row, Right: Kirok and Miramanee.

4th Row, Left: Gene and Leonard on the last day of filming (?) party for The Search for Spock.

5th Row, Center: Variant season 1 TNG cast photo, sans Worf and Wesley.

Which Ones Are Your Favorites & Why?

I'm going to say my very favorite is the Quinto Spock publicity still(?). It's still astounding just how dead on Spock that is. Couldn't have asked for better casting, costume, and make-up.

Been lurking these threads for a few months now, and I love them. :techman:

It was season one, so he was still one of the little people. Yar was basically the Worf of season one.

Terrific photos, thank you for posting them Frontier. I especially like the one of Kirk from Wolf in the Fold.

That pic of Spiner with the early makeup test is really creepy.

I honestly thought that was Spiner's stunt-double until I saw the tag.

Oh, and my personal fav? Dr. McCoy, as played by Karl Urban's swagger :)

2 McCoys this month - yay!

2nd row, right - my 2nd favourite McCoy.
3rd row, left - mmmm, DeForest Kelley :D
6th row, left - I love that scene - "the hell I can't"

It was season one, so he was still one of the little people. Yar was basically the Worf of season one.

More than that, Worf was the last character created and actor cast because Roddenberry had to be talked into including a Klingon (or a previously known alien) as a character.

This photo was probably done before he was even cast.

Hi, WillsBabe!

Bump - Don't these usually get a 'sticky'. Thank you, Frontier, for more wonderful pictures! :)

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Bones is doing his best Hef impersonation. Phew: Good thing CRAVATS are still stylish in the late 23rd century!

Data looks like he's from a summer stock company of Cabaret. "Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome . . ."

Why isn't this thread stickied?

My only guess is Misfit Toy is MIA. He is usually the first to chime in. Hope he's alright!

Well, more or less. He won't be around much in the next few weeks, though. I'm not sure whether you did that because I've only been promoted yesterday but if you want a thread to be stickied you can just drop the forum Mods a PM (preferably with the link to the thread). Then it shall be stickied. :D

Back on topic. I liked nearly all of the pics but my favourites are new Bones and new Spock.
The make-up test pic of Data is very interesting. He looks a lot more alien and artificial that way. Kind of creepy, really.
