Rare Photos: December 2011

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Merry X-Mas All!

Yeah, yeah, I know. It's still 21 days away. Oh well!

Been having a hell of a fall... winter? Fall... whatever this time of year is! Hope everyone else is fairing better.

Time for some early presents!

My Favorites:
2nd Row, Left: Behind-the-scenes shot from Trek 09.

3rd Row, Right: Enterprise crewmen taking a nap between takes on the Paramount lot.

5th Row, Right: Publicity shot of Riker and the Neuter form of Laal.

6th Row, Right: The (refit) Bridge of the 1701.

Which Are Your Favorites & Why?

Some really nice shots this month. I like your choices, Frontier. I love the lighting in that shot of RDM. I don't think I've seen that particular shot of KA and MB before. Hope things get better for you, Frontier.

1st Row, Left: Was the first draft of that drawing done while Jack Lord was still in play for the lead?

I absolutely love:
1st row, left - that is such a cool drawing! Would definitely put it on a wall somewhere as a poster.
5th row, center - great shot of Captain Picard at his most serious best.:techman:

WillsBauble, I really love your avatar. I've recently started rewatching TNG and I couldn't help noticing again what a handsome guy Commander Riker is.

Pretty trippy drawing, I wish it was colored.

To my knowledge, it never was.

NBC did a whole big thing of all their shows drawn like that one season; I'm only showing the TOS part.

I showed a crappier-quality-copy in one of the first issues of Rare Photos back in the day. 2006, 2007 ish. This one was just so much better... had to update. ;)

Hey, a laughing Vulcan! I like that. :) The picture of Nimoy and Bennett (the last in the first row) is great, too. I wouldn't have recognised Michael Dorn on the street. He kinda looked familar but I don't think I would have made the connection.

Someone must at some point have colored it, because click.

Most of the pieces I find by the same artist (Bob Bentovoja) are also in color, so maybe the one in your gallery is from a black and white repro of the original art?

As soon as I opened the page I knew it was first row left. I draw and doodle and this was right up my alley.

I dunno, the look of that color-wise has me wondering if such wasn't colorized rather than actually originally colored, you know? Plus I think NBC used the original whole big illustration (which may or may not have been a mural at one point) as part of its 1966 advertising campaign, and back then they never would have spent the money on doing such in color. Hell, into the late seasons of VGR the publicity material sent out to affiliates was still black and white, lol.

Also I have a vague memory of the first time anything TOS appeared in color in print (IE not on TV) was for a color TV advertisement poster. This (crappy quality and B&W as it may be, lol)

Then again, this is 45 years ago we're talking about. Who knows? LOL

By the way Frontier, I love your holiday avatar.

It's a tradition of mine. :) I have the entire set... if you really want... lol... it's totally NSFW though, hah, so I could only PM it. ;)
