Rank your favorite Sci-Fi Characters of all time

label

Same drill as the Series thread.

1. Picard from ST : TNG = My ultimate Sci-Fi hero. Smart, Disciplined, Studied..........everything I would like to be.

2. Critchon/Aeryn Sun from Farscape - Irreverant, Brilliant, passionate. Everything else I would want to be. As for Aeryn ...the absolute perfect pairing for Critchon. Wonderfully written pair.

3. Walter Bishop from Fringe - absolutely brilliant character. Multi-faceted, sympathetic, genius, humorous...he's got it all

4. G'kar/Londo from Bab 5 - Those two are inseparable and incredibly written. I sincerely doubt we'll ever see a pair written so well again.

5. Locke/Ben Linus from Lost - These two rival G'kar/Londo. Amazing chemistry, intense, powerful........very compelling pairing.

6. Wesley from Buffy and Angel - amazing character transformation, incredible arc. Loved it all.

7. Garak from DS9 - not a main or even regular cast member, but one of the most clever, compelling characters ever written.

8. Mal from Firefly - Deep, complex character that would have been incredible to unwrap over time.

9. Sawyer from Lost - As of Season 5 of Lost, one of my favs of all time.

10. Adama/Starbuck/Apollo/Baltar/5/Tigh/Rosalyn from Nu-BSG - There wasn't one star on that stood above the rest, but at times, each one of those characters ended up being amazing at differnt times throughout the series.

Other characters I've loved.
Mulder from X-Files
Bashir/O'Brien from DS9
Jane from Firefly
Lorne from Angel
Rodney from SG: Atlantis

The Doctor from Doctor Who
Avon from Blake's 7
Data from TNG
Indy from Raiders, etc
Han Solo from Star Wars
Daniel from SG-1
The Professor from Sliders
Ham Tyler from the original V

I seem to have a thing for the very smart and/or the very bad-ass.

1. Captain James T. Kirk: He's everything I ever wanted to be. Brave. Heroic. Irresistible to women. A leader of men. Everything I know about manhood I learned from him.

2. Superman: A true saint. Too good for our world which is why he resides in the world of comic book superheroes. Alas...

3. Batman: Because he's Batman!

4. Anakin Skywalker: He really is me but prettier! Brave, loyal to a fault and unappreciated by his peers.

5. Dr. Bruce Banner: Another guy who is a lot like me. Basically a stand up guy who is highly susceptible to stress and prone to monster tantrums. ;)

6. Indiana Jones: Adventure's true name.

7. Han Solo: So very cool.

8. Spider-Man: What self-respecting geek doesn't love this guy or identify with him on some level? Spidey I heart ya man!

9. Buffy Summers: Love ya Buff.

10. Luke Skywalker: Just an all around nice guy.

Seriously? I can't choose! Here's a rough and ready run down.

Sarah Conner (T2)
Roy Batty (Bladerunner)
The Doctor
Methos (Highlander)
Gaius Baltar (new bsg)

The Doctor
Benjamin Sisko

Iron Man
Captain America
Spider-Man
Cleric John Preston (Equilibrium)
Optimus Prime
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Cameron (Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles)

that's a random dozen.

Scorpius ( Farscape ) : Best written and acted antagonist character I have ever seen in space opera genre

G'Kar ( Babylon 5 ) : A brilliant character which was presented as a hammy villain at first but then became almost like a priest and philosopher as a result of brilliant writing and development

William Adama (BSG) : Hard , diciplined but also wise , fair and just commander of BSG

I'm sure this list would be different tomorrow

1. The Doctor - Doctor Who
2. Spike - Buffy/Angel
3. Scorpius - Farscape
4. Cordelia Chase - Buffy/Angel
5. Bobby Singer - Supernatural
6. Col. Saul Tigh - BSG
7. Jayne Cobb - Firefly
8. Darla - Buffy/Angel
9. Desmond Hume - Lost
10. Lilah Morgan - Angel

Hard to answer, as I haven't lived for all time...yet.

Quark - Deep Space Nine, the most human character on the show.

Sam Merlot - True Blood, Sam's the man...and the dog, and the fly and a lot of other things.

Shran - Enterprise, Shran's the man...the blue man.

Ellen Ripley - ALIEN(S) 3 RESURRECTION, she's the woman.

Mad Max - Touch those tanks and *pfll!*

James Bond - for most of his movies, anyway.

4. G'kar/Londo from Bab 5 - Those two are inseparable and incredibly written. I sincerely doubt we'll ever see a pair written so well again.

7. Garak from DS9 - not a main or even regular cast member, but one of the most clever, compelling characters ever written.

Scorpius ( Farscape ) : Best written and acted antagonist character I have ever seen in space opera genre

These would be my choices. :)

Some of mine as well. Also:

James T Kirk- the epitome of The Hero, he taught me the Command Decision

Spock-it's only logical

Lazarus Long-as a distillation of Heinlein's philosophy, he taught me many lessons about how to view life

Han Solo-never understood swagger until he came along

Morpheus-now that's how you make science fiction cool!

Picard-dignity and a riveting characterization that leapt off the screen in the very first scene; that such a dry and stodgy character makes my list is a tribute to Patrick Stewart's portrayal.

Q-I liked him so much I had a separate VHS tape just for the Q episodes back when I was taping Star Trek.

Garibaldi-a rascal and a rogue who just happened to work for the Law, to me he is the archetype of Anti-Establishment

Hal 9000- as a child HAL freaked me out because he had such a nice, polite voice and demeanor even as he was killing people. The impression remains decades later

Starbuck- original BSG-as a kid that's who I wanted to be

ed.-Little Fuzzy-because he caught my imagination the way ET never did

There are others that have made an impression but these I have a special love for, a little place inside where they feel like old friends despite never actually having met them

All great choices listed above. When I was young I wanted to be Buck Rodgers in the worst way. Especially having Erin Gray as your partner.

I also liked Stringfellow Hawke from Airwolf, although that isn't very sci-fi.

In no particular order...

John Crichton - too stubborn to die

Garak - too devious to die. "It's amazing what you pick up while hemming trousers."

Scorpius - too devious and too stubborn to die. "I...DO NOT...LOSE!!!!"

Chiana - I don't know why, I just really like Chiana.

Picard - if ever in doubt as to his badassery, ask the Klingons, who respected him enough to make him the Arbiter of Succession. Keeps a cool head in situations that would make most men cry like a baby.

Sisko - nobody else punched Q. And I like the many facets of Sisko's psyche.

Weyoun - sure, I'm evil and responsible for hundreds if not thousands of deaths, but that's no reason not to love me!

Nathan Stark (Eureka) - brings smug superiority to a whole new level. Always thinks he's right, because he usually is.

Jack Carter (Eureka) - so dumb he's a genius.

Daniel Jackson - Because he's awesome.

Ba'al - devious, cunning, and charismatic.

Jack O'Neill - "Ball? As in...bocce?"

Sam Carter - because she punched Ba'al in the face and lived to tell about it.

Teal'c - Indeed. No explanation necessary.

You want book characters?

1. God Emperor Leto II

2. Paul Mua'dib

3. Roland Deschain

4. Eddie Dean

5. Willy Wonka

6. Dorothy Gale

7. Aslan

8. Harry Potter

9. Batman

10. Spider-Man

11. Superman

I'm quitting at eleven. And yes the irony isn't lost on me that all of these characters have appeared in movies. Except for the DT characters who soon will appear in movies and television.

Is it my imagination or do none of you people read?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I read a lot. And there are many great characters from various series I've read (for instance, Roland from the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series is a brilliantly written character) but my question was more directed towards Sci-Fi that has aired on TV/Movies.

That being said, I completely screwed up myself as Han Solo/Indy are both some of my favorite Sci-fi characters ever portrayed on screen.

1. Jean-Luc Picard
2. Fox Mulder
3. Dana Scully
4. Indiana Jones
5. Han Solo
6. Data
7. Cornelius (Planet of the Apes & Escape From The POTA)
8. Zira (Planet of the Apes & Escape From The POTA)
9. The Lone Gunmen
10. Spike
