Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I lent out my copies of the prequels and post Star Wars sequels and not really wanting them back and haven't really made any attempt to ask for them

I just realized in the last 15 odd minutes of the final 60th anniversary special of Doctor Who the newly regenerated 15th Doctor has no pants. So much stuff happens at such a pace I never noticed that detail before haha

The chances of being eaten by your cat is low… but never zero…
I heard that once you die they don't wait all that long before eating you.

I was at a picnic today, swapping 'war stories', and this one came to mind. True story:

I was stationed at a remote location, year long tour at the far end of the Aleutian Islands. There was a guy there who was shipped out before I arrived, but I heard the story.

His supervisor went to talk to him about missing hourly mission requirements as he was always sending the reports in late. The kid told him to be quite because "they were listening". Supervisor walked over and closed the door. Kid said, "they'll just walk in". Supervisor locked the door. Kid said "that won't help; they can walk thru walls." Supervisor called the chief and said he was taking over the shift.

The next morning, the kid came out of his room black and blue head to toe. No, he did not have a roommate. Said the little people beat him up for talking about them.

They told me about the kid after I read some of the old shift duty log books, and the kid had written some pretty weird stuff. The one that made the most sense was: Warning to coffee drinkers! Remember to use a separate cup to heat your water in the microwave. If you must use your drinking cup, be sure to clean it very, very good. Otherwise, when you put the cup into the microwave after drinking from it, the microwave will incubate and mutate your own germs, so when you drink them back in, you'll get really sick.

I've met a lot of 'interesting' people during my 45 years in / working for the USAF. I'm not sad I never met this kid in person.

Trying to get my head around this. My social security age for retirement is 67. Anthony Head, you know the guys that played Giles, died at 72. So if he collected social security at 67, he would have only received it for 5 years. Think the take away is to retire early.

Yet people wait until 67 and miss out on FIVE YEARS of income they paid into, and the annual COLAS adding together make up a big chunk of what they'd get monthly at 67.

You get 30% less at 62 starting out, but here's the COLAS from this decade. $1503 increased to $1907 five years later. That's pretty close to 30%.

It's not even 8pm and I'm thinking about sleep. Struggling to keep awake. Shall finish this episode of Enterprise and then sleep. Well audiobook time.

I plan to collect at 70 unless I have health issues.

What I'm saying is that it's crazy that you can't collect the full amount until 67. And folks rarely make it to 95, which is what is typically used in retirement planning.
