Random New Trek Idea

Just for fun. Thought I'd throw together a notion by the seat of my trousers and see what anyone might think. It might be totally, utterly terrible. Or not.

First, I did a google image search for "Star Trek ship" and grabbed the first one that caught my eye:
Some kind of Romulan warbird. Okay. Honestly, I've always rather liked those ships and the idea of the Romulans in general. Hated the weird new make-up TNG came up with for them. Ditto the uniforms. But I did enjoy the whole notion of the Remans.

So what is Star Trek: Warbird going to be all about? I'm tempted to go all Blake's Seven and let political prisoners from a future Fascist Federation find it in deep space, but no.

Let us turn to a different notion instead. Sure the UFP has a frontier, right? A fringe area where hardly anyone ever sees Starfleet, but where no one would blink at some humans wandering around, amidst species we've never heard of before. Way the hell out there (remember, the galaxy is friggin' HUUUUUGE).

Doing another quick search, this time for "Reman female" (simply because) I find another image:

I'm going to call her "Kharmill" because of my favorite vampire story. This ship more or less belongs to her. Well, she and some compatriots stole it. They had a plan, but for one reason or another most of them are gone, leaving her and a handful of other Remans short-handed (maybe there's a Romulan or other species tossed into the mix).

She's come to a planetary system run by a corporation that prides itself on satisfied customers who can buy or sell absolutely anything. This system has several sizable alien communities, including some humans--some group that decided the Federation wasn't for them, too stuffy or whatever. The local SuperCorporation has an employment-finding service. Not particularly cheap, but guaranteed to fit aptitude to job opening or your money back. One human family has been saving their funds for years to purchase this service for one of their kids. But the older son came up with nothing. He insists they spend that money on the younger son, who finds himself now hired to help out on the Warbird.

In fact Kharmill has hired a small crew in this manner, for what appears to be something of a Quest. She's being rather hush hush about the whole thing, but they have a list of items to find and seem confident all of them are in this general area somewhere.

The human she's hired is probably a really excellent salesman with a genuine (but hitherto unnoticed) talent idea of this kind of mission. In fact this guy (let us call him "J.C.") becomes invaluable, the lynchpin of whatever-it-is they're trying to do. And as somebody starts showing up interfering with them, the stakes and mystery get progressively higher. At the same time, the handful of crew members begin to work together.

In tone, I imagine something of a blend of Sherlock (with Kharmill as the Detective) and Doctor Who with Buffy. Still the Trek universe, but in a weird corner of it years and years after Nemesis. A bit mysterious, but with some running humor, and probably some growing sexual tension between J.C. and Kharmill.

I still don't understand what's wrong with Star Trek just being "Star Trek'. Every idea I see on these boards are from people trying to turn it into something else.

I've got a great idea for a Superman series! It'll be about a Catholic priest who heads up Friday night Bingo sessions, but it'll be in Metropolis!

If it isn't Star Trek then... Just. Make. Something. New.
