News R. Lee Ermey Has Died

The odd thing is, on Friday NPR ran a story that started with an audio clip from Full Metal Jacket, and I thought "Oh I hope Lee Ermey hasn't died," and then was relieved when it was just part of the story. Then a couple of days later, he has died.

Much of Sgt. Hartman's unforgettable dialogue was made up by Ermey, the screenwriters couldn't come up with anything as good! I went to see FMJ three times the summer before my senior high school year, and my brother and I still quote it highly. Semper Fi Gunnery Sergeant.

Ermey built a great career out of just being himself.

Rest in peace Gunny, and have a beer with my father and the rest of your brother Marines when you get there.

The boot camp part of Full Metal Jacket is the only part of the movie I really like. The Vietnam stuff was just ok. Ermey was just awesome. "What is your major malfunction?!?"

Loved his show on the history channel. He knew what he was talking about and when he got the chance to fire a old weapon you could tell he was enjoying himself.

He was in the second X-Men movie. At least his voice was. Love his voice. FMJ was a masterpiece. He was perfect.
