Quick Question About Laptops & LCD Projectors

I need to give a Powerpoint presentation at my school except there is no laptop available. Therefore, I was going to bring in my laptop & use the school's LCD Projector (as I don't have one). Is it as easy as physically hooking the projector up to my laptop or would I have to download software onto my laptop for the projector to work????

You should just be able to plug in, and Windows will treat it as an extra monitor.

Just don't forget to use your laptop's function key combination for dual screen setup.

I'm assuming your laptop is running Windows

with the projector connected to your laptop
right click on the desktop
click on Properties
click on the Settings tab
you should see a gray box with two smaller '1' and '2' boxes
they represent the different displays available for output
the '1' is the LCD screen on the laptop, and the '2' represents the video output such as another monitor or projector
right click on the '2' and click Attached
click on Apply at the bottom and you should see the projector display your desktop wallpaper

in PowerPoint click on Slide Show at the top
then click on Setup Show
you should see a drop box under Multiple Monitors, choose the secondary monitor option

you should be good to go from there

A lot of people do that for my classes, and they just plug it in and it starts working. And these are some really computer illiterate types, so it can't be all that hard.

The particular brand will dictate which F-key will work. The previous three ThinkPads from my work used F7. My new Dell Latitude uses F8.

An absolute certainty is to restart the PC with the projector attached. It will automatically sense it and replicate exactly what's on your desktop. Same thing if you just resume from StandBy or Hibernate modes.
