Ok so i have bin around playing some of the start trek games and in every one that includes such ships as the enterprise A or USS Reliant, you know the old movies. In every game i havbe playedwhen there is a weapon fire I see the shields fluctuate much like the next Generation but idon't ever see this in the movies and i think i saw a TOS episode where they did but have I missed something in the movies?

But I did not ever see this in the movies and I think I saw a TOS episode where they did but have I missed something in the movies?
During Journey to Babel, the shield progressively weaken while under attack by the Orions.

During TMP, in the scene where V'ger attacks the Enterprise refit, the deflectors drop to thirty percent after a single attack.

During TUC, while in combat with General Chang, Scotty reports both shields weakening and later, shields collapsing.

(given my own lackings, I usually don't get on people about their spelling, but come on)

.

LMAO, this is off topic, but I just really liked the way T'Girl made the first post readable, it helped me quite a lot :techman:

I can chip in here with a bit of info, not sure that it's relevant here much, but... here goes anyway...

The shields won't raise at all in TSFS

Hope this helps?

The OP kind of reminded me of the comments from the News.Com.Au "apology" comments on their site that is a post in General Discussion...

The one you are talking about is where the torpedo strikes the saucer section from behind and as it hits at the same time as an explosion, it "ricochets off. After Scotty mentions that the shields are weakening you see an effect of scorching and an almost "sparky" effect in that spot.

In all of the TOS movies except for TUC, events conspired so we never saw weapons fire hit shields. I recall hearing once that the effects team for TUC researched the prior movies to figure out what the shield effect should look like, and so didn't include one since there wasn't an apparent effect before.

Yeah that's right.
It was one of the early first season TNG eps (maybe Arsenal of Freedom?) where the shield effect was seen.

In all of TOS and all the movies, there was never a visible deflector shield effect onscreen--which is okay and good, because not all technology must have a visible aspect.
We don't see "rays" coming out of our gadgets when we activate wi-fi, right?

Yeah it was early TNG that established the visual of a deflector "bubble" around vessels.

^^^ I correct myself, I think TAS was the first appearance of some kind of visual effect for the deflectors.

Actually when V'ger attacked the Enterprise in The Motion Picture, couldn't we see the effect of the lightning bolts hitting the shields from the main viewer? And yes, there was a visible shield effect in TAS.
