Question 'Drastic Measures' re:recent episodes (TV spoilers, but no book spoilers please)

Hello,

I understand a younger Lorca figures prominently in the book. Can someone who has read it, without providing book spoilers, clarify the following for me?

Does the characterization of Lorca in the book still make sense now in light of the revelation that Lorca as seen in the series has been a mirror interloper the whole time?

Also, do we know whether or not Dayton Ward knew about the mirror revelation at the time he wrote the book?

Something to remember is that, depending on if you interpret his "one year, 212 days" line as being additive or being more specific (I go with the latter), Mirror Lorca was only in our universe either since just after the beginning of the Klingon War, or only for the year prior to the war. This far back in time, we are unambiguously dealing with Prime Lorca, a man we only know about second-hand from Mirror Lorca's cover and what little Cornwell mentioned about knowing him when he was younger, so there's not much for the book to be consistent with, one way or the other.

Now, I'm only about halfway through the book, so there could be some mindblowing revelation or twist that, I don't know, this is actually Kelvin-Timeline Lorca,* but I will say that from all indications, Mirror Lorca was doing a plausible impression of Prime Lorca based on what I've seen of him so far in Drastic Measures, with the obvious exceptions of his shifty and wild-eyed behavior, such as treating Burnham like she was made of glass, sleeping with a gun under his pillow and acting as if every romantic liaison is a pretext for an assassination attempt, and eating that weird mirror-universe squid platter. Prime Lorca is a man of action, with a deep sense of right and wrong and a craving for justice on behalf of those made to suffer, and has at least one prominent quirk that Mirror Lorca went to the trouble to emulate. If you were expecting Prime Lorca to be the mewling, indecisive Good Kirk to Mirror Lorca's brandy-swigging wild-man, you'll be disappointed. If you were hoping for the Lorca we saw on TV, but not a secretly evil mass-murdering racist, you'll be pleased.

*Fourth Discovery novel: Crisis on Infinite Lorcas. Make it happen, Pocket.

There, that should be nice and vague while still answering your question.

Does anyone know if there any plans to write a novel about how MU Lorca came in the PU (I know *Spoilers* it was during an ion storm) and what happened to his PU (prime universe) self?

That's probably for the TV show to handle first -- I don't exactly see them giving that one to the books, unless they ultimately somehow just decide not to bring Prime Lorca onto the show. But yeah, that one's still more their prerogative, really.

Yeah, this seems more like something they'll let the show handle. Such a novel probably won't be considered until after the show is done and never did that storyline.

Read the book. You might be surprised.

He'll be back
