Question about the genesis/evolution Xindi arc

I enjoyed the Xindi arc but wondered if the writers ever chimed in on its evolution. I know why the arc was created-to generate interest in the series--but I wonder when certain ideas and elements came to them--Did they know the purpose of the spheres all along, were the Sphere Builders always meant to be the Xindi's Future Guy, was the book in Exile going to have more of a role in the arc but was dropped, was FG/Suliban ever considered to be brought into the arc etc.

i really would like to see answers to some of those.
i had the feeling that early on they threw some things out and then decided not to use them like the book.
did they alway intend for degra to become the complicated character he became.

S3 definitely has some loose ends, despite its many strong and outstanding episodes. I always felt that some of the elements they did not really explain or follow up on could have been cut out without any loss, thereby focusing the narrative and taking away the distractors.

...Then again, we would place the remainder under that much closer a scrutiny if the fluff were to be cut away from around it. It's perhaps best that there always be "padding" - both to distract us (as the red herring certainly is a valid literary device), and to provide raw material for writers that can later be turned into new and enthralling storylines. Much of the "Worf arc" in TNG was borne out of such padding, after all.

I kept hoping that the flying race would show up towards the end and help turn the tide in the favor of Enterprise. Or at least a line about them being an obstacal for the spear builders and thus wiped out by them.

Didn't Mike Sussman use to post on this board? Maybe he could give us some insight into how the Xindi storyline developed.

i had hoped they would touch more on why the avians did die out.
