Question about starting the DS9 relaunch

I have my Trek relaunch reading plan pretty much set to catch me up with Typhon Expanse. I should be pretty much caught up around the middle of 2015, assuming the world doesn't end in 2012 like in that silly movie.

All of the DS9 relaunch novels were conspicuous by their absence though. Eventually I'll want to catch up with that series as well. I recently picked up the Twist of Faith omnibus that collects the Avatar novels with Section 31: Abyss and two Gateways tales, Demons of Air and Darkness and Horn and Ivory.

My question concerns the Section 31 and Gateways titles. How do they read without the others in their respective series? I've heard that the Section 31 novels are pretty much stand-alone novels that have nothing more to do with one another than the title. Is the same true of the Gateways titles?

Thanks guys.

The Gateways books are about different aspects of the same crisis; if you need to know how it's resolved, you'll have to read the TNG entry, but it's terrible and not that interesting. The DS9 story stands on its own in every other way. As long as you get the Twist Of Faith omnibus instead of the individual paperbacks, so that you get the novella conclusion from the What Lay Beyond hardcover, you'll be fine.

What Thrawn says is 100% true. You don't need to read the other Gateway books to enjoy Demons of Air and Darkness and the follow up story. I read the other Gateway books long after I had finished the DS9 Relaunch and most of them don't much if anything to do with Demons of Air and Darkness other than partially dealing with the same issue and they aren't nearly as good.

And you're 100% right about the Section 31 novels being totally stand alone, they have nothing to do with each other.

The Gateways series was loosely tied together until the final book. The Section 31 books were just about the same spy group, and the stories had no real relation to each other beyond that.

Also Therin, note that he said that he picked up the Twist of Faith omnibus :)
