Question about BSG

In the final few episodes, Adama seemed to be popping quite a few pills, yet an explanation was never offered (unless I missed something.) Was an explanation ever given?

I haven't watched any nu-BSG in years, and forgot about Adama's odd behavior at the end. A quick internet search of fan theories suggests that he may have also been dealing with a serious illness like Laura Roslin was, though in his case it was mostly "off-camera".

End of season 1. So season 2 was a few months then a year jump on New Caprica then about a year comprising the rest of season 3 and 4. By the end of season 4 it was about 2 to 2 1/2 years since he was shot by Boomer.

I'm sure years of responsibility for the large vestiges of mankind, being shot in his own CiC plus years as a frontline combat officer had all combined to take a toll on his body.

It was S3 that Bulldog beat the crap out of Adama, still maybe too early to explain the pill popping.

Maybe Roslin was just really rough with him.

IIRC, he had a nervous breakdown at the beginning of Season 4.5 in the aftermath of discovering the Cylon Earth...might have had something to do with that.
