I was dreading watching this dog again, but it was actually....still bad...but not AS bad as I last remembered. This a show where the B plot is better than the (lame) A plot.

The story of Varis Sul and her (inner) conflicts over land w/a rival Bajoran sect was pretty good. The thing w/Odo's bucket was typical juvenile but cute.

Yes this episode sucks, but not as hard and doesn't swallow

Have to agree with you here. The B plot had much more juice than the A plot. Which shows how weak the A plot was being that Bashir and O'Brien were two of my DS9 favs.

The episode just winds up really making the people of that village seem like the lamest of lame-o's.

I kinda liked it. (ducks!) It was awkward, and you could tell that tptb really hadn't figured out what they wanted to do with the show. But still, it had some moments.

I actually kinda like this one. The A-plot was originally pitched as a TNG episode. Anyway, the DS9-Relaunch books touch on this episode, so that makes it more enjoyable too.

O'Brien throwing in his little commentary on what he thought of the whole situation during his story was pretty funny.

"Once there was a Dal'Rok. The villagers gathered to fight it with unity...and strength...and those shiny white lights. Where the hell are those damn lights?"

I like this episode, because I realise now that the point of it isn't so much the plot relating to the village, but rather the first signs of real friendship between O'Brien and Bashir.

Yeah, that's a beautiful thing about the episode, it shows the beginning of the Chief/Bashir friendship arc. Culminating in WYLB. Good stuff.
