Q-Squared is one of my Top 10 favorite Trek books of all time. Depending on what series I want to read, it could well hold the #1 spot. If you like Q and Picard, then you will love this book. BTW: It helps if you've seen "Yesterday's Enterprise" first.
It's also one of my favorite books, but not only that, it was my first Star Trek book. It's all Peter David's fault.
It's absolutely stunning! I'm a sucker for alternate histories anyway but the bit where Spoiler Trelane faces the really mad Trelane and is shown as a frightened child gets me every time I read the novel.
I loved it. Definitely one of my favorite Trek novels. If there was an audio version, I hope William Campbell read it. It was cool how they kept jumping back and forth between different universes (or 'Tracks'). I was laughing so hard at this scene: Spoiler: Q-Squared Tasha Yar from Track A, which is basically a 'normal' universe (it's not the same as the regular Trekverse, there's some differences, but it's fairly recognizable) runs into her counterpart from Track C, which is a "Yesterday's Enterprise" variant in which the Enterprise-C failed in its mission. Anyway, Tasha-A sees her C counterpart and just starts freaking out, like 'What kind of hair is that? I look like a boy!'
^ Yeah, I loved that scene too. I just read Q-Squared earlier this year (got it from a huge used book/movie/comic book/ect stroe in the Phoenix area) and it is also one of my favorite Trek books. I love parallel universe stories, and IMO this is one of the best, on the screen or the page.
Outstanding. It made me 25 minutes late to work one day because it wouldn't let me put it down.
I found it a bit improbable though, that: Spoiler: Q Squared In all the multidimensional infinity of creation, in all the infinite number of parallel universes, there's only ONE where Jack Crusher is still alive? Trelane must have been bullshitting Jack when he said that. Because with infinite universes, the subset of them where Jack lives must also still be infinite.
Spoiler codes? On a book that's been out nearly fifteen years? There's a freakin' Statute of Limitations, y'know. Sheesh...
This is by far the best book in my collection. Anything that has Q in it or PAD writes is great. I love all his books.
What, Trelane can't tell a lie now and then? Awesome book, definitely my all-time favourite Trek novel. For a guy who prefers to write his own characters, Peter David does bring out the best in the crew of the Enterprise D.
This was the book that got me into Trek literature, though I had to read it about half a dozen times to fully get it - I'd only seen a handful of TNG episodes when I first got it. PAD doesn't seem overly satisfied by it given his comments in Voyages of Imagination, and I can imagine it would be very difficult to write. The audio version is quite good, too.
Oh dear. I mean no disrespect to John, of course, but shouldn't a novel so heavy on Trelane be voiced *by* Trelane? Did Campbell not want to do it or something?
