Putting a Moorcockian slant on the Whoniverse

EJA

Fleet Captain
OK, this one's for fans of the writings of Michael Moorcock. Ignoring, for the time being, any issues with Moorcock's DW novel The Coming of the Terraphiles, how should we go about bringing the mythology of the Whoniverse more in line with Moorcock's Multiversa saga? I believe it's already been suggested that the Doctor could work as an avatar of the Eternal Champion. But what of Moorcock's myths of the constant war between Law and Chaos, the Cosmic Balance, etc; how can we work all that in?

I've talked a bit elsewhere about the White and Black Guardians from the classic series, who represented universal principles of order and chaos, possibly being linked to Chaos and Law as portrayed in MM's fiction. But the more I think about it, the more it seems that these two omnipotent beings aren't really in line with what MM wrote about (They're more about Good and Evil, which, according to MM, can both apply to either Chaos or Law). So how could we harmonize them with the Moorcockian cosmic heirarchy?

There is an incarnation of the Eternal Champion in Terraphiles.
It's Bingo. Like Rackhir the Red Archer in "To Rescue Tanelorn" and Stormbringer, he's the one who uses the Arrow(s) of Law.

According to Terraphiles, the Doctor is not an incarnation of the Eternal Champion. He, uniquely, has no "self" anywhere/anywhen else in the Multiverse. Amy and Bingo both see their lives in other timelines, but there is only the Doctor in all of the Multiverse.

Okay, so how can beings like the Guardians of Time fit in? Are they above or beneath Law and Chaos?

What's crucial to keep in mind regarding Mike's concepts of Law and Chaos is not neither is wholly good nor wholly evil. And in the DW stories in question, the White Guardian and Black Guardian are portrayed as simply being Good and Evil respectively.

Then again, I remember reading about a DW story in one of the unofficial charity anthologies, where the Doctor, in his final incarnation, discovers that he's actually been a servant of the Black Guardian all his lives, and the White Guardian was responsible for such forces as the Daleks, to impose Order on the universe. I've only read about it though, not actually read the story itself, but I find it interesting how it seems to bring into question the whole WG=Good, BG=Evil thing.

One idea I have entertained is that the WG represents the Cosmic Balance (possibly he's one of the Grey Lords written about by Moorcock), and that the BG is an avatar of Moorcock's Fear/Satan entity, who seeks to destroy the Balance; but this doesn't seem all that likely to me somehow.

Comments, anyone?

Bloody hell, what's happened? I was hoping other people would have something more to add to this discussion. :sigh:

Maybe the Doctor isn't an avatar of the EC. The idea of the Whoniverse and Moorcock's Multiverse being connected is still highly intriguing though, and it utilized in The Coming of the Terraphiles. This is why I ask these kind of questions, to see how we could get the mythologies to synch more.

Who is Moorcock and what is Terraphilles? I have absolutely no idea and this thread has totally confudled me! :p
