Punisher Short--Dirty Laundry

That was surprisingly grim.

I wondered at what point Frank was going to decide to do something. And when he did, it was methodical and incredibly bloody.

I thought the build up to Frank acting was handled perfectly. Jane really does have a great sense of the character and what makes him tick. The end bit with the kid and the t-shirt was awesome. Also a really awesome use of Zimmer and Howard's "Why So Serious" from "The Dark Knight" score :)

That was pretty good. Nice to see him back.

On the short film, Thomas said:

"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it." - Source

I see that some of the comments on the YouTube page are calling for a series.

I'm not sure why that exists but it's cool that it does. Kudos to Tom Jane, sounds like he has some integrity.

Apparently it was something Thomas Jane brought and showed at SDCC this past weekend. I wonder if it wasn't meant to be a little pitch to Marvel Studios? Or at least a way to get their attention and say, hey I'm still interested in this character if you guys are interested kind of thing. Otherwise it just looks like he wanted to make a fan film.

Very cool stuff. I think if it wasn't already obvious from his performance in the 2004 film and the video game, this very clearly demonstrates that Thomas Jane *really* gets Frank Castle. They should absolutely do something more substantial with this.

Can you imagine what an HBO made Punisher series could do with this kind of material? I'm thinking an anthology format similar to the old Bill Bixby 'Incredible Hulk' show...but with less sad-walking-away music and more blunt force trauma & shattered bones.

Oh and it's probably only because I've watched this trailer about a dozen times, but after seeing this fan film, I can help wondering how a crossover with these two characters would go down. ;)

I never saw the movie but that is amazing! I love that he has so much dedication to the character to do this all on his own.

I watched this earlier today, and thought it was pretty cool. I don't know anything about Punisher though, so I can't really judge how true to the character it is.

If he is this vested in the character, why did he pull out of the sequel? Of course it might not have been his choice, but everything I read suggested that Jane was tired of waiting and just decided to move on.

Also, if Marvel did do a Punisher movie I'm not sure I'd want it to be a part of the MCU. I mean Frank's world is kind of at odds with what we saw in The Avengers, lol.

From wiki:

After reading the new script by Kurt Sutter, Jane stated:
"What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I'll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch."

Sounds like he didn't like the script... Love of a character will only take one so far... and maybe BECAUSE he loved the character he didn't want to do a shit script.

It was well done, well acted, well crafted, don't get me wrong. It was clearly part of the best types of pet projects on youtube. But the one glaring thing that doesn't pass for me is that Castle essentially sat back and let someone get raped. I would have thought the rape itself would have pushed Castle over the edge, since that's really serious business -- this is a guy who's punished villains that use torture, after all. And yes, I realize I'm critiquing the morality of a guy who shatters bones with frightening ease, but to me that only highlights the rape even more.

^Because he's not Batman? This is why he's called 'The Punisher' and not 'The Preventer': he's not a defender of the weak, not does he try to stop crimes in progress, he acts in response to them. You can't punish someone for something they haven't done yet. He's in it for the retribution.

It was pretty clear to me that he saw what was probably about to happen very early on, but did nothing. He was very deliberate in waiting until the kid was at risk of suffering *permanent* injury before going to town. It's also worth remembering that this guy has seen a lot worse than a street rape and drug dealers beating up a child. He's not squeamish (see: broken bones.)

Not to belabour the point, but here's a quote from the 2004 movie: -

"...in certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No, not vengeance. Punishment."
