PS3 Linger in Shadows...what the heck did I just play?

Being a fan of weird, out-there video games, I had to download this one from the PSN Store for $3. Even after reading the introduction and trying it, I'm STILL not sure what this game's about, although I earned four trophies in the process.

From what I've seen so far (which admittedly is a VERY incomplete view), it's an interactive real-time movie, a bit of Ico and some Braid waxing philosophical thrown into a blender with some Fallout post-apocalyptic action. The end result resembles the stuff my nightmares are made of (talking about my actual nightmares, not this being a bad game). Regardless, it sure is pretty with a booming soundtrack.

Anyone else try this yet? Can anyone tell me WTF is going on here? :guffaw:

That's the thing people were talking about a while ago! I was wondering what it was... I'm going to grab it tomorrow.

I read it's not actually a game and that it's some 'demoscene' thing or something. I don't really know what that word means, so I'm still in the dark. As a fan of bizarre and abstract games (or whatever this is), I'll snatch it up tomorrow probably.

But jeez, EBS, way to use all my magic words: ICO, Braid, and post-apocalyptic :D

I searched for "Linger" here and found nothing relevant, so I think this is worth a new thread to discuss this rather...unique download. I'm hesitant to call it a game since it's NOT one in the truest sense. Spiffy tech demo though.

Downloading it right now actually.

WORD TO THE CURIOUS: DON'T EXPECT A GAME, THAT'S NOT WHAT IT IS!

^ 'Bout 110MB.

I just got through it... might just be me, but I found it pretty damn creepy. I "unlocked" all the sigils. Pretty interesting though, kinda want to see more of this kind of stuff.

EDIT: Darn... I guess I didn't unlock all the sigils! Only 52%

Yeah, I just downloaded it. It was...compelling. I had no idea what was happening, though, but I kinda guessed that's the idea :D

Demoscenes are an oldschool thing back when there weren't that many graphics tools. The idea was to create some kind of animation using what you could find - so it's basically a way to show off your skill with a particular system/software package.
