PS3 Add-ons?

Will it ever be possible that Sony will make and offer add-ons for poor 40 and 60GB owners to allow them to play their old PS2 games? It just seems ridiculous to exclude us from the 80GB lucky bastards circle! I really hope them or a third party will make some complicated gizmo to allow us to do this! I wanna finish my damn God Of War 2 before 3 comes out! :scream:

Unless I am mis-remembering, it's only the 40GB owners that have to worry. The 60GB model actually had the BEST PS2 emulation, as it actually had a PS2 processor, whereas the 80GB model only has software emulation.

My mistake, I was sure I was making a mistake when I put 60GB there, but it seems that only 40GB was available when I brought it and for an affordable price too. The tight bastards!

Only the American 60gig version and the JP 20gig version had full 100% PS2 compatibility.....The EU/UK 60gig version which is also now discontinued, does not have 100% PS2 backward compatibility as they are missing some hardware which was replaced by software emulation, and the worldwide 40gig version which has no backward compatibility at all.

The 80gig which is not available in the EU/UK also does not have 100% backward compatibility.

To many SKU's this generation i think...5 so far for the PS3, and 5 for the 360...no wonder people are confused.

Too bad they didn't just make one SKU that works. How expensive is it for them to add in the backwards compatibility aspect, anyways? At prices like $499 or $599 or whatever they're selling for these days, I can't see how much of a difference a PS2 chip would make, considering new PS2s go for what, 99 bucks? Plus hard drives cost next to nothing (relatively speaking) at sizes like 60 or 80 Gb.

I wonder if they will even bother updating the whole backward compatibility stuff now as they are selling a PS3 with no backward compat as standard worldwide now.

Yeah I already know this. I know that 40GB does not have the hardware to play PS2 games, only the 80GB does and the 60GB as has already been said has been discontinued. But what I asked was if anyone knows of any plans to offer some form of a hardware or software add-on or a third party gadget that you can use to allow us to play our beloved PS2 games in the near future or never?

While adding it may be relatively cheap, when you're selling a system at a $200 loss, you want to pinch every penny that you can.
