Protein shake?

How big is the difference between using water or milk in a protein shake ? A lot of people say water..but I prefer milk..what is the best type of milk to use? I usually use 2% or fat free..

Shouldn't be a big difference, though if you're using it for calorie replacement after a workout you might want to pick something with carbs so you can get a good 75/25 carbs/protein balance. I use Bolthouse Farms juice.

Though if you want to save money a couple handfuls of almonds and a glass of orange juice is probably just as effective.

Do you like drinks to be a fluid or a semi-gelatinous blob that's as thick as pine tar with chunks of dirt in it?

I've never been really able to choke down a protein shake made with milk, too think and never can stir it enough to get all of the powder to completely dissolve into the milk.

Water is thinner so it produce a more liquid/drink-like consistency and the powder dissolves a lot better. Sure, the nutritional benefits are different from the loss of the milk but, I dunno, chase your protein drink with a glass of milk or something. Using water isn't really adding (or taking away) anything to the equation so NBD.

It's generally a matter of taste. Milk makes a creamer shake however if you're counting macro's, milk adds calories.

Also depends on where you're at, if you're at work or the gym it may not be practical to have a jug of milk with you so water is the only other option.

Edit: Agreed though, I see your signature that you're a personal trainer. This is basic stuff.

protein shakes are awsome for loosing weight! I have one after every workout not before. I usually just eat an apple about half an hour before i workout.

this is what i put in mine most days....

8 frozen strawberries
1/2 cup egg whites
1/2 cup skim milk
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1/2 cup rolled oats

blend and drink

To mix it up change the frozen fruit or protein flavor

buy a magic bullet, it saves a lot of time in cleanup. I lost about 70 pounds last year and I had it just about everyday

Commercial almond milk is a little bit of a scam though, it has much less almonds than almond milk is supposed to have.

Also arguably, if the protein shake is a post-workout shake, calories are the point.
