Why do I suspect this could lead to answers for Dark Energy and Dark Matter if such effects occur in nature as well?
I wonder if that could also explain "flyby anomaly". Now if you could project a magnetic field, you could "throw" magsail vehicles at escape velocity and let them ride the solar magnetic currents to get from place to place with very little propellant.
Right now, it may only be good for medical uses at small scale. Now we know how the Romulans harvest anti-matter for their plasma weapon. Romulans looked to black holes after harvesting self contained “knots” like super ball lightning from magnet at surfaces. They didn’t DARE warp with it initially for fear of field/field interactions. Have the Cabbages harvest the stuff, load it into an early impulse only Rom BoP, and look more powerful that you are. Later on, the BoP weapons can generate their own weaker bolts (Deadly Years)— with the BoP from PICARD being the last one with mag star bolts that fried the Borg cube into an artifact to be scrapped. That’s my retcon.

The magnetic reconfiguration energy dumped into the Earth's magnetosphere during a Carrington-type event is on the order of hundreds of gigawatts so probably not currently feasible. For comparison, a nuclear power station produces about 1 gigawatt of power.
There is a part of me that wonders if space based solar power can be done with cables in the right place--no need of large surface area. The technology here, though weak, could perhaps be like providing a little vacuum to a hose to siphon gasoline from a tank? Something to get a process started?
