Projectile weapons in Trek?

The borg have assimilated countless races. You mean to tell me no one has come at them with guns before? The machine gun worked because it was unexpected. Im sure they would have shields if it became a go to solution.

That's why you need neutronium bullets, like Nero's missiles seem to be made of...but only Thor could pick it up.

Most likely people have used guns on the Borg before. I'm guessing that the Borg body shield can't shield against everything at once, they have to be "tuned" to protect against a certain number of threats at any one time, but if you fire something they haven't encountered for a while, the collective would have to reach into their memory to get the specific shielding to that weapon.

They would take out one of the current shield protections and replace it with the old one, but they would lose something to gain something.

I would have been happy if the crew on the NX-01 had been using small fire arms, shooting projectiles, instead of "phase pistols." If nothing else, they wouldn't have given away our hero's position every time they fired.

MACO's could have had submachine guns.

That's the same beef I have with every TV show or movie where someone is searching for the bad guys in the dark using flashlights. They're just screaming "here I am bad guys - just shoot me!".
