Project: Potemkin is proud to announce that its first full-length episode, "The Void," will be made available on YouTube on the Project: Potemkin channel Friday afternoon, December 16th. The link will be posted here and at other sites at that time.

This 31min episode stars Jeffrey Green, Blair Erskine, Eric R. Moore, Doug Harper, Stephanie Burke, Bethany Carver, Chris Coleman, Mario Pagan and Rodriguez Graper. It also guest stars David Eversole.

This episode was directed by J.T. Ealum, edited by Thomas Scott & Randall Landers. It features music and sound by Steve Gallant, and special effects by Jon Carling, with Rick Foxx, Bob Reed, Sean Scullion. The episode was produced by Ricky Thompson and Van Buchanan. The script was written by Randall Landers, who also served as executive producer.

The episode will also be posted to Vimeo and the Project: Potemkin website in higher quality within the coming week.
 
It's nice to see the project reach its first full-length milestone.

Some technical comments based on the early preview for project members (not sure how much has changed between that one and the public version):
The effects look a lot better in context than they did as separate sequences during the development phase.
One thing I'd suggest is to look into more seamless color-grading during the next project. The switch between saturated contrast-rich VFX elements and somewhat desaturated live-action scenes created a break which doesn't really have to be.
Color-grading can be an art by itself, but I have faith in the specialists in question.

That's a very fair criticism, Lennier, and it's something we've worked to correct in future episodes/vignettes. In fact, we did do some of that in "The Void," but there was only so much that could be done.

One of the problems I noted was that when I was tweaking the contrast and brightness of certain scenes, there was a certain level of distortion that appeared that involved lines. Going to be experimenting with that with future productions. It appears ONLY when we're adjusting really underlit backgrounds with a brightly lit main character in the foreground.

Good news!

You might consider launching the film on only one site. The reason for this is that if you drive all traffic to one location, all the hits will register only there. The more hits you have, the more likely your video is to spread. If you have it on several sites you potentially dilute that impact. This is why we put the Kinsey Sicks music videos I direct only on their YouTube channel. If you have a different strategy for distribution, please disregard!
 
I appreciate that input, Maurice! It'll be a week before we post it to our website for DL in AVI, MOV, WMV and ISO, and at least a few days before we post it to Vimeo (I love the quality of their videos).

We're definitely promoting the production at this point, and hope that it's well received.

Your stage description in the center of the page is beautiful and lovely, and it will not photograph worth a damn. If you want to make a comment about her ability to leap a thousand of years of evolution, we are going to have to say it.

Congratulations Randy! It's great to finally see this released into the wild. My internet connection on my phone is pretty flaky, but I'm looking forward to seeing the final product when I get home. I'll drop you a line next week.

Congratulations. I'm still amazed that you were able to build a bridge in your carport and put together a team scattered across the country to make this and all the other episodes. I have enough trouble taking a picture of the wife and grandkids, let alone making a film!

Just finished watching it. It's a good first effort (vignettes aside). As I like to point out, it's easy to be knee-jerk critical, but anyone who's made a film understands how difficult it is to finish at all, so the fact that you got to "The End" is a major accomplishment in of itself.

Yes, I see some simple problems that I'm sure you're aware of and I'd be happy to give some specific feedback if you so desire. But for now, revel in the afterglow. ;)
 
^^^I imagine Randy is attending the glitzy world premiere, so I'm going to just slightly clarify one line in your great article, Mike (besides Randy, I'm the other writer of most of the forthcoming eps). While we often do have to initially draft a script with generic character tags like "MR. SCIENCE" or "CADET SMUG" or whatever, once we do lock down the actor for the role, the next few drafts will tailor the action to that character/actor.

Well, you do. LOL I, on the other hand, never fill in the names until I know who's actually available. And Mr. Science is a cool dude. He's just been transmorgrified into three different women in our episodes and vignettes: Lieutenant Allen, Ensign T'Noshi, Lieutenant Spampinato.
 
You guys did the hard work, I just get to enjoy it and write about it! By the way, I'm one of the few people here who's been to Albany since I have relatives there. (I'm one of the even fewer who knows how to pronounce it properly!) Congratulations again. I'm looking forward to more of your work.
 
Congratulations! I enjoyed it. The episode premise and resolution were great, and I like the way you mesh TMP and TOS designs. I'll chime in with additional remarks in the coming days.
