Producer: 'V' Is Just Too Complicated, Inconsistent

Scott Rosenbaum criticizes the first season, promises Season 2 will be better.

"In a complicated show that needs a mythology, you have to have ... answers," Rosenbaum said. "I think the reason the show had some problems in the beginning was because there weren't answers to the questions" being posed.

You're going to understand what they are, how they were created and what they consist of. They're not necessarily just lizards."

I dunno, most of our complaints seem to be that they just haven't really given any motivations to the aliens. Now they will explain why they are here, thus settling most issues.

Actually, it's the reverse for me, in that the characters never asked the obvious questions in order to maintain the secrecy of the mythology, which I hate. The human resistance fighters interacted with various friendly V's on multiple occasions, yet never once asked what it was their species was actually trying to do on Earth, IIRC. If they plan to correct that flaw, I might be more interested this season.

I didn't find the show complicated at all, just filled with plot holes and poor writing.

^Exactly. It's not complicated; it's dumbed down to the point of just being boring. We can't identify with any of the characters because we don't know and don't care about who they are.

That's just bad writing, folks, pure and simple.

"V"-complicated?!? Lost was complicated. Season one of Heroes was complicated. V is far far far from complicated. In fact it is pretty straightforward and easy to follow.

The problem really isn't that there haven't been answers either. The criticism I have for V and the reason I bailed on it was that it lacked interesting characters and interesting storylines. And like FlashForward the series has a bad habit of doing a plot that at first seems like it is going to be tied into the larger arc but was just a detour. I'm also pretty burnt out on terrorism and sff doing allegories on it. It has been nearly a decade since 911 and frankly this subject has been explored to the point where there isn't anything I've seen that feels fresh.

Pretty much everything LOST had V doesn't--an urgency to the storyline, fast pacing, tons of interesting alternating threads, intriguing adversaries, clever cliffhangers and an elegance to the way the series is structured. And V despite all the talk of a mythology really doesn't feel to me to have much in the way of one.

I don't see this as a worthy complaint--afterall these type of mystery arcs always drag out the motivation for sometime--we didn't learn for sure about the Xindi motivation until the end of the season, same for the Company or NOah's motivations until near the end of the first season on Heroes, same for the Others purpose or Jacob's until late in the game.

Couldn't agree more. We know she can act from LOST but V she is just bland.

But these mystery arcs always have the characters not bothering to ask the questions or ask the follow-up questions. It happens because if they have the characters do that all the mysteries couldn't be drawn out or it would spoil what was to come since everything is interconnected.

V's are here. They have secretly been here a while. There are good lizards with emotion, and the bad lizards want them stopped. Sooooo hard to follow.

I happened to really enjoy Season 1 (although the post-hiatus episodes were far superior.) I am glad to hear that more information will be revealed about the Visitors, their background, and their motivations early in Season 2. I don't think that the show is complicated...just more of this information needed to be embedded into Season 1.

Plus, as a major fan of the original V, I am super excited to see Jane Badler joining the new series in Season 2!!

That has been the only bit of leaked news that has even remotely tempted me to check back in on the show but I was super excited about seeing Jennifer Lien return on VOY too in "Fury" and look how that turned out. I mean the writers have a mostly good cast so it is clear no matter who they might cast won't do any good if the writing doesn't improve. I'm definitely getting a Tim Kring vibe from this Rosenbaum fellow--he says he has heard all the criticisms and makes multiple promises that the show will get better--he said after the fall episode hiatus the show would be better and now come back for S2 because we are going to really fix it this time. I don't hold out much hope for V.

My question is, does this producer actually believe what's he's saying? If he does, then he's clued out. As people have said here, it's not complicated nor hard to follow at all.
If he doesn't then it's another case of pretending one thing to cover bad writing.
It's unfortunate either way.
