Princess Mary has twins

Princess Mary of Denmark has given birth to twins if anyone in interested, a boy and a girl.

The boy, weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces (2.7 kilograms) , his sister, weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces (2.6 kilograms).

Big story here in Tasmania because Mary is from Hobart.

4 kids in less than 6 years, I don't envy her, but I guess she has a great deal of help.

Edited to add - when Prince Christian was christened in 2005 the Tasmanian government sent him 4 Tasmanian Devils as a christening gift - which is about the coolest christening present ever. The devils are in Copenhagen Zoo and are the only Tassie Devils outside of Australia.

^Apparently the births (pardon my English, but is that the right word?) were quite uneventful and everything went rather smooth and easy.

On being born on the 8'th of January: Who knows, maybe ELVIS is going to be remembered not only for being The King of Rock but also for being in line as The King of Denmark :rommie:

Yes, it is the right word.

Is there much talk in Denmark about what the babies will be called? In Australia the names Matilda/Mathilde has been suggested for the girl, and John/Johan (after Mary's father) for the boy.

In Australia the names would have been announced soon after birth, but if i remember correctly in Denmark names are not announced until the christening.

I reckon those devils are getting rather old now. Maybe we should send some more.

During the first minute and a half of the video on this page (if it's even available outside Denmark) the Queen exclaims just that about the names. (in English) (Plus she repeatedly describes both kids and mother as looking 'radiant' (in Danish) and when asked whom the babies look like she says: "definitely each other") [But you've probably got better clips yourself down there ;) ]

By law people have a year to decide on the name of a newborn (although with royalty it's probably different and they do have their own traditions.)

They'll probably both have no less than four names and there are some very hard traditions on what some of them must be -personally I really don't care that much -as long as the prince has Elvis or Aron as one of his :p

Matilde (or Mathilde) -does sound like the kind of name a princess might have but I don't really see something like John happening -but then, these are nowadays, not yesteryear so it really is anyone's guess!

In re. of the devils: I suspect you always could send a cooler of the needed genetic material to invigorate your Nordic colony ;)

And If I may get back to naming: When my sister gave birth to my nephew in London she was a bit surprised -so she later told me- that she was asked about his name almost before they cut the umbilical cord -luckily she was ready to name him at that moment even if it did surprise her!

ETA:
I haven't been following any debates on this subject but media coverage of the public debates has noticed that there -of course- are lots of congratulations and the usual bunch of comments like "Yay, two more mouths to feed off our taxes" and "Poor kids; they will never have a say about how they want to live their lives" (posted by someone calling themselves "Republican") and a few feel like me: "Twins born in the direct royal line is going to interrupt normal TV scheduling for weeks -I hate that!" :p
