Next time Prince William comes to visit North America they should try and book him a visit to ComicCon.
There was of course a flood of coverage of his and Catherine's visit to Canada and the US this past week, but there were a couple of tidbits that only made it into a couple of reports that I thought were worth a giggle.
On Sunday he and Kate visited an inner city arts project in LA's "Skid Row" area, where they worked with the kids on making clay tortoises and turtles. And William was overheard talking to several of the young kids (direct quote from the news story):
"Have you guys ever seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? No? It's a cartoon much cooler than it sounds."
(Let the chants of "He's one of us! He's one of us!" begin!)

Another report, which was played up a bit in the UK, had Kate giving away a bit of a family secret - that William's a videogame nut:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ince-William-and-Kate-Middleton-fly-home.html
(Actually, the words she used were "computer games" - so who knows, if that elf lord you're partnered with in Warcraft just took the last 10 days off ...)
There were a couple other amusing bits as well. This isn't SFF-related, but apparently when Wills and Kate arrived at a star-studded event for BAFTA, the first star they made a beeline to meet was actually James Gandolfini of The Sopranos. And a report from the "Hire our Heroes" event (a program to encourage employers to hire US veterans, which Will and Kate are looking at getting established in the UK) revealed that Wills was a fan of the Oni card game as a kid. (The context is that the game was one of the items included in care packages for troops that Wills and Kate helped pack.)
Of course, those who aren't taken in by the romance of the monarchy won't see much that's "amazing" about these reports - oooh, a guy born in 1982 enjoyed TMNT when he was a kid, who'd have ever imagined? - but it's still nice to have some big names like this effectively endorsing things like TMNT and videogames (that BAFTA event honoured not just actors but also videogame makers, too, btw). There was something similar a few years ago when one of the newspapers reported that Doctor Who was one of Queen Elizabeth's favorite shows. (In this light, please save monarchy-related debates for TNZ - thanks! This is just meant to be a bit of fun of the "Obama is a Superman fan" variety.)
PS: this is amazing. Immediately after I wrote the above, I went on Google for any other references to the TMNT thing. Do you know that in less than a minute Google had already indexed this posting? And on the first page of results if anyone looks for Prince William and TMNT, yet. Wow!
