Primeval returns - with Sid from DS9 joining the cast!

No more Laila Rouass? Waaaahhhh!!!! Okay, her character never really amounted to much, but she was gorgeous, like a more exotic version of a young Marina Sirtis.

I am happy as hell that the show is returning!

I'm not sure I am. The third season was a complete mess story-wise. The show started out being pretty well-grounded in plausible biology, but the third season completely went off the rails into ludicrous fantasy (the fungus-men being the most egregious case). And with the changes in the cast, the central driving story arc of the series was lost and the season just meandered after that. And the finale was weak because the heroes didn't do a single thing that affected the outcome of events. It would've turned out the same way even if they'd all stayed home that day.

And with Laila Rouass gone, the only character left that I actually give a damn about is Lester. I guess I'll watch for Alexander Siddig, but I hope he and the other new characters are actually interesting and I hope the writing improves. And I hope the new female cast member, Ruth Kearney, is as hot as most of the other female cast members of this show have been.

Laila Rouss is one of the new recruits to season nine of Spooks(aka MI5), along with Sophia Myles (Moonlight, Doctor Who: The Girl in the Fireplace).

Judge for yourself: http://www.shelfordheadshots.com/images/ruth.jpg

Hmm, quite possibly, though I'd have to see her in color (sorry, colour) and motion to be sure (and I can't get BBC video streams in the US).

Well that wouldn't help anyway, since Primeval isn't a BBC programme.

I didn't even know series 9 had been announced. I guess that shows how much interest I've lost in Spooks.

She hasn't appeared in Primeval yet, so that's irrelevant to the matter at hand. I was referring to the movie Gracie! in which Ms. Kearney recently appeared, the one referenced in the article. That aired on BBC2, apparently. What I meant was that if someone was thinking of providing me with a link to some video clip of her, it probably wouldn't work because online video from British shows generally isn't viewable in the US (at least not legally, and I'm one of the few people who actually think that matters).

I have only seen up to the end of season 2, but I guess I am hopeful...

I was not happy to read spoilers for season 3, though, where several main characters were killed off or departed. :(

To me the show always centered around the Nick/Claudia/Helen core character dynamic. It would be neat if they could bring those characters back somehow. With timelines changing, anything is possible I suppose.

So none of the original cast members are going to be back then?

From the season one cast, Ben Miller, Hannah Spearitt and Andrew Lee Potts are all back for seasons four and five (at least initially!).

Ah cool, I only heard about this from the news on the side of the board, and I thought the article sounded like it was saying the new people were replacing the whole cast.
