This is a preview blurb, plot bunny, drabble or something, for my sequel to Star Trek: Into the Inferno.

Romulans

We are Rihannsu. In the spoken language of the barbaric humans it means “The Declared.”It is an apt name. We declared our intentions to sunder our connections with our Vulcan brothers and left their world when it became obvious that they were going to sacrifice their souls at the behest of that silver-tongued veruul Surak. We found two worlds, Romulus and Remus and settled on them, building our own culture and language to suit our new home. We the greatest of all races, the true heirs to the civilization ran by our misguided Vulcan cousins then built an empire among the stars. Now the humans and their coalition of planets threaten to deprive us of the resources in their area of the galaxy.

We’ve long known of the primitive human world near our own borders, and until recently it was no threat to us as humanity was a child race just starting to explore the stars. Now the humans are a far greater threat than we realized, and they’ve found their long sundered brothers and sisters near our borders. The presence of a populated human world and a Starfleet base near the Imperial Outmarches is unacceptable. We will conquer it as we will conquer the rest of humanity and claim the worlds of those primitive
vaekh as our own. We are Rihannsu, and that is inevitable.

Starfleet

Ad Astra per Aspera. That is our motto. In English it means A Rough Road Leads to the Stars. Nothing could be truer. Humanity
has had a rough road to the stars. We drenched our world in our own blood since before the dawn of human civilization in the Fertile Crescent. Finally, in one moment of political insanity we used our most powerful weapons on ourselves and nearly destroyed that civilization. It is by sheer luck and skill that what was left of our civilization was able to hold the line against barbarism long enough to make contact with Vulcan, contact which allowed our race to unite around the fact that we would need to present a united face to the galaxy at large, once all the demons were slain. We slew those demons and now, as a nation of sovereign states we’ve begun at last to swim in the deep waters of space amongst beings who’ve had space travel for millennia.

But the galaxy beyond our own borders is very much more dangerous than we think. As among humans there are those who would visit death and destruction on innocents to suit some narrow political end, and seven million dead Americans, Jamaicans, Cubans and Venezuelans can attest to that.

Now there is an enemy that threatens to do far worse than even the Sphere Builders. The Romulans a faceless enemy that has already slaughtered billions on Coridan Prime, have known of this human world on the edge of their space, at war with itself for a century. The time for such fighting amongst our own has passed and the power hungry monsters who have goaded this war into continuing past all reason must be brought to justice. They must be prepared to meet a far greater enemy.

And we are running out of time.

Military Assault Command

Semper Invictus. That is
our motto. It means Ever Invincible. The squids may speak of the rough road humanity has taken to the stars, and they are correct, but without us to guard the sputtering flame of human civilization that rough road would’ve ended in extinction for our race, at least on humanity’s birthworld. We are the guardians of the realms of men, have been since the days of the Post-Atomic Horror and when the legendary Marshal Fenton was just a wet behind the ears lieutenant, before he, his wife, and his sister joined Zephram Cochrane as folk heroes to every human currently living on Earth and her colonies. Before he came along we were just a bunch of disparate military units under the flags of our different nations, united only in our desire to protect an equally disunited bunch of civilians from dozens of countries survive to reach safety in the heart of North America. He, when all his superiors had died, our units decimated, wedded the survivors into the Military Assault Command. Under his leadership we were charged with the defense of mankind from those who would see it brought to ruin. It was a charge we gladly took, pledging our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honors. We smacked aside the arrogant Colonel Green and in five years of war we broke his back and restored one of the greatest countries to ever exist, and ended the worst genocide since Hitler.

Now, on this beautiful world in the dark wilds of the galaxy, we will hold true to that oath he swore us to a century ago, the oath we’ve all sworn. Azula and Ozai, and all who are willing servants to their depredations
will be brought to heel.
And when the Romulans come, we will drive them back into the night.
