When I was a teen around '82, I dreamed I was sitting in a yellow car looking at the house, a song was ending on the radio and the DJ came on and he said "that was a new song by Foreigner 'That Was Yesterday'. I looked at the radio to see which station it was and the dial was just a green blank, then I woke up. Okay. Weird.
Come early 1985. My Karmann Ghia dies a fiery death and the insurance payout is enough to buy a El Camino pickup from the newspaper classifieds. It's yellow. It's good enough to get me to college. I don't yet make the connection. I had money from Christmas so I decide to replace the AM radio in it. A stereo installer put good speakers in the doors and a decent but not expensive stereo. All is good. It even has a green digital readout instead of the typical backlit dial which I thought was so cool.
A few weeks later, I'm sitting in it listening to the radio...and That Was Yesterday came on...
The view from the front seat of an El Camino is the same as a Malibu.
It still gives me chills whenever I hear that song.
