It's taking too long to load.

The story is circa 2026, so yeah, it's supposed to be this century. I wouldn't say he represents (or is meant to represent) the typical view of characters or what people are supposed to be in that time period - he's a psychiatrist who's having a tough time adapting to life on Mars. I found a lot of truth in the statement.
