I'm trying to recall a film I saw at a Chicago film fest, probably 2010-2018. I believe it is from Argentina or Cuba, or another Latin country in South America. A man, aged 30s-40s, is part of a small military or government band. He does not have a lot of money. He hears of a music contest and takes out some old songs he wrote when he was courting his wife. Their relationship seems less loving now. He wants to enter the contest and needs to pay the entry fee so asks his boss to pay him in a timely manner, or maybe for an advance, and probably also to take time off out for the contest. He hides a paycheck from his wife. Later we find the music contest is on the same day when the band needs to play at an event in Greenland or Iceland or some cold country like that. The film ends with the man exiting a small plane and standing in a tundra-like landscape. I might have misremembered some things, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No, it was a foreign language movie that I saw at a film festival so I did not know any of the actors in it. (The only Argentine actor I can name is Ricardo Darin.) The plot would have music but it was nothing I recognized, as it would be probably marching type music for the military band and also original songs that the character would have written. Thanks for trying to jog my memory at least.
Thought about approaching the problem from the other end? Can you figure out what music festival it was? If you can narrow down the list of festivals you attended during the time period, you might be able to get a list of titles that played at those festivals and find the movie/short from there.
That was another avenue I have been trying. I do have some old programs and tried looking up the movies I recall attending and I think I was able to narrrow down the years as per my original post. I'm thinking the film wasn't financially successful so was not widely released internationally or on dvd. Perhaps it was in a year I don't have the program for, or I misremembered some details so am not making the connection in my memory. But thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for trying to help. Darin is a known actor to me and I do see his films when they come to fests here, so I am fairly sure that I would remember if he was in a film with a plot I have described. I don't recall any that has had a musical component like this plot. Also I think he is a little older than the character I am remembering. I am almost sure it was Argentinian, or at the very least a Latin country. I am trying to find older listings of films in case it is older than I remember. Most of what I read about Argentinian films tend to name the same ones again and again.
