Playstation Network Log-in

I have a PS3, and since the beginning of the year, I haven't had any luck logging in to Playstation Network. As a result, I can't update the only two games I play (Streetfighter IV, Injustice). I'm constantly getting a message saying "PSN Timed Out." When I first encountered the problem, I thought, fine. Sony was hacked back in December, so I just waited for a while.

I've tried various troubleshooting techniques, none of which have made any difference. I unplugged/replugged the power cord and Ethernet cable. I tried manually setting up the network configurations. I even reformatted the unit and did a reset. I can't even rent movies on Vudu or re-download game content at this point.

Any suggestions?

I finally resolved the issue last night after several weeks. There was a problem with my Internet connection, so I contacted Comcast online support and ended up resetting my Netgear modem/router. I had to log in and reconfigure my wifi and firewall settings. When I restarted PS3, I was finally able to log in to the Sony Network. :)

That is a situation I would have needed to rectify. My Playstation is what I use to watch Netflix, and I'm pretty sure if I couldn't do that I would die.

I don't use Netflix, but I usually stream movie through Vudu. My living room BD player has it, and now I can use it again on my PS3.

Yeah, from your original description, it sounded like a router issue to me since your overall connections with the PS3 were affected. Glad you got it resolved.

BTW, downloading updates are separate from PSN. You don't necessarily need to be logged in to PSN, as any updates are treated like system updates when the game is installed. It's why you'll receive an update notification if there's an update ready when you start a game or initially install it.

Sorry, I actually meant my DLC rather than game updates themselves. When I reformatted my PS3, I lost all of the saved games and downloaded content, and it was necessary for me to log in to the Sony Network.
