Playstation Home Launches Globally December 12th

As this is the first I've heard about this thing (I don't really keep up on video games too much), I can't say I'm terribly excited. But I'll wait until I hear more about it.

I've been in a beta test for it for a few weeks now and to tell you the truth, I've only goine into it one time. For all the hype that Sony has had over this for what seems like forever now, it's was "meh." It was mildly entertaining for a few minutes and got old pretty fast. A friend and me went into the bowling alley and bowled a game. And as soon as that was over, we were both like, "Ok, time to go play a real game."

My thing is, nowdays I have extremely limited time to game, and when do get a chance to sit down, I don't feel like dinking around with something like this. Maybe I'm being unfair and maybe if I take the time to explore it, maybe I'd feel differently. But nothing in my first day in Home really made me want to go back.

You can have another 'meh' from me here. I put the disc in the machine, then click the title on the list. I play the game. I'm not one for all this extra crap going on, I want to play the game because that's why I have my PS3 for. I don't have it for hanging about doing nothing on (that's why I have a WoW account).

Yeah, I just don't understand what's supposed to be so appealing about it. It just seems like such an utter waste of time and effort. Nothing about it looks interesting at all.

Also from PS3fanboy:

SCEE has announced that the service will be available to everyone starting tomorrow. From the looks of it, there'll be no firmware update involved. The Home icon should simply appear under the PSN section of the XMB after a system reboot. As for what content you can expect to see once the open beta begins, there'll be plenty more than in the current closed beta, with more coming soon.

This really doesn't want to be a forced update. I really don't like the idea of getting home form uni for the winter, getting my stuff unpacked (and by that I mean left in the middle of the floor...), then going to have a nice sit relaxing time on GTA4 and finding out that there's a great big update that I need to go download. I really hate it when that happens, and it has done every time I go home so far as no one else ever updates the damn thing. If this one is different then I'll be quite happy.

Home is not mandatory to play your games, if you just want to start you game up as you do now then you can, its simply a 3D interface for those who want to use it.

I think a few people here dont seem to know what HOME does...

Although, I didnt know you could fly planes and things on it. Theres this video here:

Looks like you could play against your friends with this red bull sponsored thing? Mini games like this look like fun, and the whole playing pool/chess/bowling against each other should be too.

Well, you get a basic install of 77MB, then it needs to reserve about 3GB of space...
That is for your home, then there are 5 other spaces that you can visit but they have to be downloaded before you can visit them, a one time only DL...

Home is neither Second Life nor a Media Center, it's a bit of both and is planned to be a lot more than either. That said, expect it to be pretty uninteresting for the first six months (just as the PSN was at first). It'll take them a while to build up a head of steam.

I managed to download it and install it with zero problems (at about 11pm Pacific). Strangely I can't make a good likeness of myself despite playing with all the custom sliders. And after seeing the clothing selection (4 items per type?!), I don't think anyone will be complaining about the 360 avatar selections ever again unless there are entire screens of stuff I somehow managed to miss.

Maybe it will improve once Sony adds more content, but I'm content to not go in there again until that happens. Once again, the Sony hype train utterly fails.

EDIT: Waiting in line for the minigames is the biggest game design failure I've witnessed this year. Whoever thought that was a good idea deserves a boot to the face.

I sincerely hope the clothing situation improves, everyone is dressed the same. Plus there are no beards at all, just moustaches.

Oh, and their attempt at brown hair looks red, not brown.
