Playstation 4

Rather you take it as an insult or not for the most part the Wii is a "Kiddie" machine.

First and foremost look at the Mii's.

Second look at the selections of mature Titles Vs. Everyone titles. (for some reason Manhunt 2 isn't there.)

Sorry kids, facts is facts.

Facts are indeed facts. Like, you know, the titles I listed earlier. And the fact that casual titles (which are almost always rated E) aren't "kiddie" titles but are instead casual games marketed at a general audience. And that's ignoring the fact that the 360's new avatar things are pretty much a direct copy of the Mii's. Is the 360 a "kiddie" system now? Not to mention the ridiculous notion that only games rated M are the only titles meant for adults.

HUH? Dude, I don't even know how to respond to your comments....

"The ridiculous notion that only games rated M are the only titles meant for adults"

HUH?

Look at the list of game (I bet you didn't) and you will see how many "kiddie " games there are.
The few "Adult" titles you listed earlier are pretty much it.

I'm not trying to insult anyone My over 30 girlfriend has a Wii and absolutely loves it.
She is the epitome of a "Casual gamer". She likes, as she puts it "those silly mindless games".

It's the same mindset that "the only movies for adults are the ones that are rated R." It's just plain silly. There is a difference between a movie or a game targeted at kids and a movie or a game targeted for a general audience. Games like Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, Bloom Box, WariorWare, etc are not kiddie games. They are casual games intended for a general audience. If you don't understand the difference between these two concepts, then you don't understand the casual market.

You've also disproved your point by talking about your girlfriend who is over 30 playing Wii games... that shows that they are not kiddie, but instead casual. The Wii is targeted at the casual audience which is why the sales have exploded so much. Targeted at young kids specifically? Not so much.

Ummmmm.......Ok, If you say so.

I'm off to play my very mature Brothers in Arms game on my very adult XBox 360 system.
Have fun with your Super Smash Brothers. ;)

Yeah, good argument

It's not that hard to understand... the kids market and the casual market aren't the same thing. Games in both tend to get rated E. The Wii has sold so well not because kids are buying it but because everyone is buying it. And I own all three systems (though no games for the PS3) so your attempt at a personal jab is pretty pointless. :p

That's a good point, people were too busy critisizing Wind Waker's style before realizing how amazing it looked. Still one of the most visually stunning games I've played in a while. Then of course, there's F-Zero, which was just amazing! And not to forget, RE4 which has "the grit"

I was one of those who criticised/s Wind Waker's style, and I'm a huge fan of the cel-shading technique. But the style bothers me less than the game itself which, after the sheer brilliance of Majora's Mask, was a travesty.

Most PS2 games were beyond fugly for the first 2 years the system was out. After that, everyone got better at doing graphics on it. Whereas Super Mario Sunshine was visually awesome right out of the gate.

The GCN was released in November 2001 (in Japan and NA), and Mario Sunshine was released approximately 1 year later. Sure it looked pretty, but I don't think Nintendo were especially challenged to make a game with lots of bold, primary colours and trees with smiley faces ;) After all, it's the same game they've been making since 1985.

By contrast, the following games released in the PS2's first year looked pretty damn spiffy for their time: Dark Cloud, Fantavision, Final Fantasy X, The Bouncer. And they're just the ones I can think of.

So no, it's factually incorrect to say that Gamecube games looked great straight away whilst PS2 games took two years to start looking like something other than dog poop.

I'll also add for the record that while the GCN may have had more graphical horsepower on paper, it's the PS2 that was the standard bearer for the generation. There's nothing on the other platforms that looked as stunning (both technically and artistically) as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus and many, many others.

P.S. I'd like to register my utter shock that Pkerr would somehow be able to work a mention of his Xbox 360 into a thread officially about the PlayStation but actually about Nintendo. Will wonders never cease?

What argument? He's so unconditionally die hard Xbox he's going to be buried in an Xbox coffin.

I wasn't taking a personal jab at you I was teasing you because you seem to be taking it personal that the Wii was called a "kiddie" machine.

Nintendo isn't the problem here, they make games that everyone can enjoy (and often it takes a hardcore gamer to truly master their "casual" titles).

The problem is third party developers/publishers who just don't get what Nintendo is doing and making kiddie games as quick cash-ins.

I'm not taking it personal in the slightest. What I am doing is pointing out how you clearly don't understand the casual games market.

I agree, a lot people who did not care about games before now are playing because of the wii, my wife, dad and of course the kids. They all love playing the wii. I don't enjoy the wii, I prefer my ps3.

You don't own any PS3 games but you prefer your PS3 over your Wii?

Edit: Nevermind I just see you quoted incorrectly. :techman:

They are probably going to casual friendly. Wii, DS, iPhone games (which are big business right now), Guitar Hero.......... games that appeal to way more than just hardcore gaming nerds. That's where the industry is going. Nobody wants to pay 500 bucks for the same damn thing with a better coat of paint of it. Nobody wants to sit there mashing 40 buttons on a controller.

Nobody being a relative phrase. Obviously somebody wants to, but there are more people who want to play games who don't want to.
