Playstation 2 games "Star Trek: Shattered Universe"

Looks like there were 3 or 4 games released when Playstation 2 was all the rage.
I still use a Playstation 2 and I can pick up the games at a video store that specializes in out
of date video games.
Were any of those games any good ? Thanks in advance, Steve

I still have my copy somewhere...can't say I cared too much for it to be honest.

Shattered Universe plays like a movie where there are cutscenes bringing you to each part of the story, where the Excelsior hangs there useslessly and you pilot a slow ass fighter to deal with everything.

Which usually means taking ages blowing up several full size starships or dozens of deadly items, with backdrops ranging from nebulas to wormholes, inside the space amoeba to the event horizon of a spatial warp.

It's a tedious slog to get through, the missions feel like they go on forever, you'll never do it on the first try and if you die it restarts altogether. One mission is literally using a fighter to take out all 4 Constitution class ships controlled by M-5 as it taunts you for half an hour, since all 4 ships can fire on you at once.

It must have sounded like a great idea when they came up with it, but it's nowhere near as fun to play as they planned.

I was hoping you could tell me one of the games was more "Star Trek" like where you could fire phasers, photon torpedos or take diplomatic action where you wouldn't have to engage a species or civilization in an act of war or something similar to that.

Ahh, well none of the Playstation 2 games then.

Encounters and Conquest are based on the same engine, and act like Armada in a way. They are very detached from any real storyline and have a distant view of a single ship you pilot that stays center screen while you fire at waves of enemies.

Shattered Universe does play out a very particular story that takes place in the Mirror Universe and retells a lot of classic TOS episodes ideas there, but from the perspective of a fighter endlessly firing at massive ships for hours, you have no character yourself either.

They're very much arcade shooters in two different styles.

There was a Playstation 1 one that was pretty good I feel, Star Trek Valkyrie or something.

Star Trek: Invasion, set aboard the fighter carrier Valkyrie. It was a better game, but shorter than the rest.

Unfortunately, across all platforms, Trek games tend to be action (i.e. combat) focused, with diplomacy pushed to the side (if it's even an option). This is especially true for a lot of Trek releases on consoles, PC games are a bit more diverse.

Call me a dreamer, but wouldn't it be cool to have a game where ..Option 1) is a shooting game Option 2) is a shoot em up game 3) Option 3 - when you choose to use diplomacy rather than shoot, the game takes you on new exciting options...girls in silver bikini's...Trees with the cherished fruit on them that makes you young again....all of these things would subliminally teach their young participants not to shoot....not too kill....what a concept !!!

Sometimes shooting things offers an outlet for frustrations. I know if I'm having a bad day, nothing makes me feel better than blowing up a few armored trucks on Grand Theft Auto 5.

The most fun I ever had with a Star Trek game was VOY: Elite Force on Windows PC... especially the portable photon torpedo launcher (basically a bazooka). After a long work day, I really don't want to spend all evening simulating diplomacy and negotiations. I just want to blow stuff up.
