Pipes of Peace

Ever get in one of those moods where you just have to hear a certain song? Today it was "Pipes of Peace" by Paul McCartney. A nice little song. I like the video which re-enacts a phenomena seen in WW1 of troops in the trenches getting together on Christmas day.
Here's a link.

I'm Casey Kasum, and this has been your song for the day.

Little known fact: this was Paul McCartney's only solo #1 single in the UK (the rest either as a member of the Beatles, Wings, or other charity records).

It's one of my favourite McCartney songs. Although nowadays I can't listen to it without imagining the heads of Sinclair and Acorn Computers getting into a bar fight. :guffaw:

Yeah, fantastic song, one of those sadly under-appreciated gems. I also love "Only Love Remains" from Press to Play.

The Miracle Of The Trenches was both a high point and a low point of WW1. It proved the basic decency or the possibility of decency in the lowest circumstances, but also led to the extreme measures the European powers took to scuttle 'fraternization' as seen in Catch-22, among other works.

McCartney's video was my first exposure to this story, and is fondly remembered.
